Job summary

Doeren Mayhew is seeking an experienced Tax Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) team. The role focuses on state and local income, property tax, and sales tax work, with opportunities to serve a diverse client base in Troy, Grand Rapids, MI, or Houston, TX.

Responsibilities include preparing tax returns, conducting research, assisting with audits, staying current on tax laws, and collaborating with other departments to deliver comprehensive client service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or master's degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field.
• CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required.
• 1 year of experience in state and local tax, preferably in a public accounting or consulting firm.
• Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C-corporation, S-corporation, and Partnership income returns.
• Conduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issues.
• Assist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiation.
• Stay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team members.
• Research technical matters related to state and local tax.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service.
