Job summary

Doeren Mayhew, a leading U.S. tax, assurance and advisory firm headquartered in Troy, Michigan, seeks a Tax Associate to join the State and Local Tax (SALT) team in Grand Rapids, or Troy, or Houston.

The ideal candidate has a background in state and local income tax, property tax, or sales tax and will contribute to the growth of our Grand Rapids SALT practice. You will prepare state and local tax returns, conduct research, assist with audits, and stay current on tax laws while collaborating

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in accounting or taxation.
• CPA or CPA track preferred, but not required.
• 1 year of state and local tax experience in public accounting or consulting.
• Knowledge of state and local tax laws and regulations.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office; experience with tax software mentioned above.

Responsibilities

• Prepare state and local sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, C-Corporation, S-Corporation, and partnership income returns.
• Conduct research and provide technical advice on state and local tax issues.
• Assist clients with state and local tax audits, including audit defense and negotiation.
• Stay current on state and local tax laws and regulations and communicate changes to clients and team members.
• Research technical matters related to state and local tax.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive client service.
