Job summary

Rehmann is seeking a seasoned SALT tax professional in Grand Rapids to lead complex state and local tax engagements. You will review operations, exemptions, and sales/use tax issues, while guiding associates and delivering tailored tax solutions to clients.

The role requires a CPA license with 8+ years of SALT experience, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset to drive client success and firm growth.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant tax experience in public accounting or industry.
• CPA license required; MST a plus.
• Expert knowledge of individual, partnership, and corporate state and local income tax laws.
• Working knowledge of state and local sales and use tax laws.

Responsibilities

• Review exemptions and tax operations to optimize SALT processes.
• Negotiate with state authorities to limit assessments and penalties.
• Provide direction and mentorship to associates and junior staff.
• Build internal relationships to enhance teamwork and client service.
• Contribute to client tax planning and preparation of various tax returns.

Responsibilities

• Review current operations and exemptions.
• Review current sales tax collection and exemption certificate collection.
• Negotiate with state tax authorities to limit assessments.
• Submit penalty waiver applications.
• Vetting acquisition targets.
• Monitor and navigate legislative changes.
• Build relationships internally to foster teamwork and collaboration.
• Provide a "wow" experience to every client.
• Contribute to the success of our clients’ organizations.
• Manage preparation of a broad range of individual, corporate, and other entity tax returns.
• Conduct tax research to develop solutions for complex and/or unique situations.
• Provide direction and new challenges to associates.
• Teach and develop associates to reach their goals.
• Mentor associates as they navigate their career paths.
• Participate in activities to grow the firm and generate business with new clients.
• Identify opportunities to introduce other Rehmann specialists to existing clients.
