We support GES globally providing outstanding service and support to our business partners ensuring we account for all transactions accurately and timely. The candidate for this Sales & Use Tax Manager opportunity must have the proven ability to perform research, analysis, and manage state tax audits while keeping the business compliant with various tax laws. The ideal candidate must also be able to develop policies for dealing with various regulations relating to sales and use tax. Critical success factors for candidate will include a highly collaborative work style, the ability to anticipate problems, proactively deal with difficult and complex situations and communicate appropriately with all levels of stakeholders. You must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, along with strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for this position consist of, but are not limited to the following:

  • Review and manage the multi-state sales/use tax returns, unclaimed property, and VAT tax filings. Ensure tax returns are completed timely and accurately to minimize tax obligations.
  • Manage the sales and use tax function and monitor compliance to all state and local taxing jurisdictions, including interpretation of tax laws, regulations and court decisions that may affect Company’s operation.
  • Identify, research and document the tax return position on all non-income tax issues (for example, sales/use tax) as they relate to the Company's activities in order to ensure the proper application of law.
  • Full accountability for managing tax reporting and compliance within an organization, includes research and involvement with both international and domestic issues.
  • Develop an expert understanding of the Vertex tax software with continuous assessment of the company’s effectiveness is utilizing the capabilities of the software.
  • Liaison with parent tax department and orchestrate all tax related activities including apportionment data for state income tax.
  • Account reconciliations supporting “should be” balance analysis through validation of account to internal management and external auditors.
  • Provide necessary support for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance inquiries to include self-assessment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and deemed necessary of the position.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a well-rounded background in accounting and be able to provide analysis and reconciliation skills to multiple types of accounts. Your ability to apply your technical accounting skills is essential to succeed in this position.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required plus 4-7 years of experience in an accounting related discipline.
  • Nice to have but not required, CPA or Master of Accounting or similar degree. We will support your need to obtain appropriate CPE credits.
  • Knowledge of Vertex Indirect Tax software a plus
  • Must be highly computer literate and able to learn new systems quickly. We utilize Oracle as our accounting system and Hyperion Essbase and HFM as analytical and reporting tools. The company will provide necessary training and support for this purpose. You will be expected to become highly proficient with our technology platforms.
  • Highly detailed person with account reconciliation skills. We utilize Blackline technology to record and approve account reconciliations. This person will be expected to become highly proficient using Blackline. The company will provide necessary training and support for this purpose.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong research, analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  • Must be a team player and demonstrate ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team setting and a self-starter attitude is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze results to include presentation of findings and execution of change deemed necessary to promote improvement. You should be a critical thinker that is highly skeptical of account reconciliation support to ensure your conclusions are supported by the documentation.
  • Microsoft Office Suite working knowledge. You should be a highly proficient with MS Excel and Word and be able to create and use pivot tables on large amounts of data
  • Accountability mindset with ability to support mentoring role with others throughout our Shared Services Accounting Group.
  • Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), technically strong and confident with your accounting skills.
  • You must demonstrate behaviors consistent with our SSAG culture of integrity, winning as a team, being innovative in your approach and identify change that will have a favorable impact on our organization.
