Summary

To service customers’ needs by installing, maintaining, operating equipment (including copper and fiber optic cable, multi-line systems, HSI, vehicles used in the construction and splicing of outside plant facilities and any/all new residential/business products) within the communications network, up to and including the customer (residential and business) premises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Place poles, cable, buried plant (cable, fiber, pedestals, ground rods, etc.) all associated equipment and service drops (aerial/buried).
• Use electronic test equipment during installation and maintenance as warranted.
• Work on Centrex and small business systems, circuits, complex wiring, and software.
• Install and maintain voice/data services for customers inside and outside the operating territory, meeting customer and PUC standards.
• Perform splicing, troubleshoot trouble tickets, and perform maintenance repair and preventative maintenance on copper and fiber cables.
• Work on aerial, underground, manholes, and customer premises using various plant elements.
• Use hand tools at ground level and aloft on ladders, poles, and buckets.
• Read and interpret service orders, trouble tickets, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
• Learn installation/operation of new and existing equipment.
• Provide information to complete jobs, trouble tickets, and service orders, and coordinate with relevant departments.
• Promote Company products and services.
• Support other departments and contractors as needed.
• Follow vehicle usage policies, maintain and stock vehicle and equipment.
• Report vehicle repairs and schedule maintenance.
• Review services with customers, ensure understanding, and identify opportunities for additional products/services.
• Report incidents, injuries, or property damage.
• Follow safety and security protocols, perform inspections.
• Inform management of market activities.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

• Minimum 3 years outside plant experience including line work, cable splicing of copper and/or fiber optic cable, and station installation.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with installation, maintenance, repair, and use of communication systems.
• Familiarity with internet browsers and PC troubleshooting.
• Basic PC configuration skills and ability to learn relevant company systems.

Basic Knowledge

• HSI or broadband connectivity, Networking, DNS, E-mail, IP networking, PC hardware.

Additional Requirements

• Effective interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in teams.
• Valid driver’s license, possibly CDL, ability to operate standard shift vehicle.
• Pole climbing certification or ability to obtain it.

Physical Requirements

• Work aloft on ladders, in buckets, on poles.
• Work in confined and outdoor environments, in extreme weather.
• Differentiate colors and alarm lights.
• Sit, stand, climb, walk, bend, and carry loads.
• Work hours as scheduled, including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays.
• Weight limit of 275 pounds inclusive of clothing and footwear.

Desired Qualifications

• Reside within 35 miles of work location preferred.
• Post high school training in electronics, data, or telecommunications preferred.
