Summary

To service customers' needs by installing, maintaining, and operating equipment (including copper and fiber optic cable, multi-line systems, HSI, vehicles used in the construction and splicing of outside plant facilities, and any/all new residential/business products) within the communications network, up to and including the customer (residential and business) premises.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Place poles, cable, buried plant (cable, fiber, pedestals, ground rods, etc.) and all associated equipment and service drops (aerial/buried).
  2. Use electronic test equipment during installation and maintenance as warranted.
  3. Work on Centrex and small business systems, circuits, complex wiring, and software.
  4. Install and maintain voice/data services for customers inside and outside the operating territory, adhering to customer and PUC standards.
  5. Perform splicing, troubleshoot trouble tickets, and conduct maintenance and repairs on copper and fiber cables in various environments.
  6. Use hand tools at ground level and aloft on ladders, poles, and buckets.
  7. Read and interpret service orders, trouble tickets, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
  8. Learn the installation and operation of new and existing equipment.
  9. Provide information to complete jobs, trouble tickets, and service orders; coordinate with departments as needed.
  10. Understand and communicate the company's products and services effectively to customers.
  11. Support the promotion of company products and services.
  12. Assist other departments and contractors as needed.
  13. Comply with vehicle usage policies and maintain equipment.
  14. Report vehicle issues and schedule repairs.
  15. Review services with customers, ensuring understanding and agreement, and present product/service options.
  16. Report incidents, injuries, or property damage.
  17. Follow safety and security procedures and perform inspections.
  18. Stay informed about local market activities.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental goals.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  1. At least 3 years of outside plant experience, including line work, cable splicing, and station installation.
  2. High School diploma or equivalent.
  3. Experience with communication systems such as dial tone and modems.
  4. Familiarity with internet browsers and basic PC troubleshooting skills.
  5. Ability to learn company systems and assist with product installation and repair.
Basic Knowledge of
  • HSI or broadband connectivity
  • Networking, DNS, E-mail delivery, IP networking
  • PC hardware
Additional Requirements
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license; CDL may be required.
  • Pole climbing certification or ability to obtain it.
Physical Requirements
  • Work aloft on ladders, buckets, and poles.
  • Work in confined and outdoor environments, including extreme weather.
  • Ability to differentiate colors and alarm lights.
  • Lift and carry heavy equipment, work extended hours, and be available for call-outs.
  • Weight restrictions apply per company policy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Residence within 35 miles of the work location preferred.
  • Post-secondary training in electronics, data, or telecommunications preferred.
