Job summary

Thayer, LLC is seeking a Project Sales Manager to lead its project sales function from opportunity qualification through closeout and final billing. Job description

The Project Sales Manager leads Thayer, LLC's project sales function from opportunity qualification through project turnover, execution support, closeout, and final billing. The role provides strategic direction and day-to-day accountability, aligns the sales team with business strategy and leadership direction, maintains a granular understanding of active and upcoming jobs, and ensures customer commitments are agreed upon internally before completion dates are promised. The manager partners across the business so every job follows Thayer's Life Cycle of a Project.

1. Leadership and Team Development
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight that aligns the sales team with Thayer's business strategy and leadership direction.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, develop, and, when necessary, correct performance in technical, sales, and job-execution responsibilities.
  • Direct and support Project Managers, Project Sales Reps (PSRs), and Transactional Sales Reps (TSRs); assign leads and balance coverage across the team.
  • Monitor each salesperson's activity, address performance gaps, and implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) when needed; hold the team accountable for agreed actions and outcomes.
  • Support the transactional sales function and coordinate its work with project sales.
  • Attend required company-sponsored training and meetings; remain a committed student and willing learner of the Sandler Sales process.
  • Serve as a safety champion.
2. Sales Process, Bid, and Contract Governance
  • Implement and enforce Thayer's sales process: Qualify, Discovery, Verification, Solution, and Proposal.
  • Review and approve all bids before they are presented to the client.
  • Ensure customer commitments, schedules, and completion dates are internally aligned and achievable before they are communicated externally.
  • Work with Legal and business leadership to review contracts for risk, terms, and overall favorability, including bonding, liquidated damages, and other project-specific obligations.
  • Maintain detailed awareness of job scope, status, risks, opportunities, and next actions.
  • Apply consistent technical and sales standards across the project sales team.
3. Project Turnover and Life-Cycle Governance
  • Coordinate scheduling in collaboration with the Call Center Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Ensure project turnovers occur properly and contain the information needed for successful execution.
  • Ensure every job follows Thayer's Life Cycle of a Project and that accountable departments complete required handoffs, communications, and closeout activities.
4. Forecasting, Workforce, Budget, and Capital Planning
  • Lead job forecasting, including a monthly project revenue forecast.
  • Maintain a current workforce forecast by trade and project.
  • Develop and lead capital investment plans with support from other departments.
  • Support annual budget estimates for tools, capital investments, training, staffing, vans, and related operating needs.
  • Use project and site information to identify capacity needs, risks, and investment priorities.
5. Cross-Functional and Customer Alignment
  • Collaborate with Business Development on strategic initiatives, customers, and development opportunities.
  • Work with the Care and Renewal teams so client concerns and opportunities are fully understood and the business remains unified.
  • Visit project sites as necessary to assess departmental strengths and weaknesses, document findings, and determine needs.
  • Coordinate regularly with Operations, the Call Center, Finance, Legal, and other departments to prevent communication gaps and execution risk.
6. Key Performance Outcomes
  • Sales process is used consistently from qualification through proposal.
  • All bids are reviewed and approved before client presentation.
  • Customer commitments are internally validated before completion dates are promised.
  • Project turnovers, handoffs, daily updates, and closeout activities follow the Life Cycle of a Project.
  • Monthly project revenue forecasts are timely, current, and useful for decision-making.
  • Workforce forecasts by trade and project support effective capacity planning.
  • Contract risks and unfavorable terms are identified and reviewed with Legal and leadership.
  • Lead assignments and sales activity are monitored, and Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) are used when warranted to reinforce accountability.
  • Cross-functional teams share a unified understanding of client concerns and opportunities.
  • Projects reach orderly closeout, lessons learned are captured, and final billing is completed.

  • Willingness to attend company-sponsored training and meetings and to visit project sites as needed.
