Job description

Position Type: Full-Time W2 Employee
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
Location: In-Person [offices in Asbury, NJ (Hunterdon County) and/or Matawan, NJ]
Reports to: Director of Sales

Work Setting: Office, client sites, and active project location

Position Summary:

The Commercial Sales Executive is responsible for developing new business, growing existing client relationships, and managing the sales and customer-facing responsibilities of commercial flooring projects from initial opportunity through final payment. This is a hands-on role that combines prospecting and relationship building with estimating, takeoffs, pricing, proposals, contract review, field coordination, and project follow-through. The successful candidate will remain actively involved after the sale to help ensure that scope, materials, schedules, documentation, billing, and client expectations stay aligned.

Key Responsibilities:
Business Development and Client Relationships
  • Identify, qualify, and pursue new commercial sales opportunities through research, networking, referrals, relationship development, and targeted outreach.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, builders, facility teams, architects, end users, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Conduct client consultations, presentations, product demonstrations, and project discussions that clearly communicate recommended solutions and value.
  • Develop sales plans for assigned accounts and markets; identify opportunities to expand services, cross-sell, and grow existing relationships.
  • Maintain knowledge of flooring products, installation methods, market conditions, competitor activity, and industry trends.
Estimating Pricing and Proposals
  • Review drawings, specifications, project requirements, and bid documents to understand the complete scope of work.
  • Prepare accurate takeoffs that identify project and site information, flooring materials, accessories, installation patterns, carton sizes, layout orientation, drawing dates, and other relevant details.
  • Obtain project-specific vendor pricing and negotiate favorable pricing and terms, particularly for large projects.
  • Develop accurate costing and proposals using approved company workbooks and processes, while maintaining required margins unless an exception is approved.
  • Obtain and deliver samples and coordinate measures, site inspections, and field verification of takeoffs as needed.
  • Negotiate pricing and sales terms within established authority and secure customer approval.
Contract and Project Coordination
  • Obtain and review contracts with the appropriate internal team, confirming scope, contract value, schedule, payment terms, insurance requirements, submittals, AIA billing requirements, and other required documentation.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings and communicate relevant commitments, risks, and requirements to Sales, Purchasing, Operations, and Administration.
  • Submit complete and accurate material orders to Purchasing; monitor backorders and estimated arrival dates against client and installation timelines.
  • Coordinate with Operations regarding installation schedules, material readiness, job-site conditions, scope, punch-list items, and project issues.
  • Visit active job sites as needed to communicate with clients and installers, confirm progress, address concerns, support material needs, and obtain before-and-after photographs.
  • Identify, document, price, obtain approval for, and communicate change orders before additional work proceeds whenever practical.
CRM Documentation and Financial Follow Through
  • Enter and maintain complete, timely, and accurate opportunity, quote, activity, and project information in the company CRM.
  • Maintain organized electronic project files in the shared company system, including vendor pricing, takeoffs, drawings, costing, proposals, signed contracts, and change orders.
  • Record sales calls, meetings, next steps, and outcomes; maintain an accurate pipeline and provide reliable forecasts and reports to leadership.
  • Coordinate with Administration on deposits, billing schedules, monthly AIA billing, completion invoicing, open orders, payment terms, and accounts-receivable follow-up.
  • Support collection of deposits, progress payments, final payments, and approved change-order amounts, including check pickup when necessary.
  • Respond promptly to customer and internal communications and raise project concerns early enough for the team to act.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Achieving sales revenue, gross-margin, and growth goals.
  • Building a healthy pipeline and providing accurate, timely forecasts.
  • Winning new clients while expanding trusted relationships with existing accounts.
  • Producing complete, accurate takeoffs, estimates, proposals, orders, and project records.
  • Maintaining strong communication and follow-through from opportunity through project closeout and payment.
  • Helping deliver a positive client experience while protecting project profitability.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated success in outside sales, account management, estimating, or project-based business development; commercial flooring or construction industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and commercial project documents; flooring takeoff experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Sound business judgment and the ability to balance customer needs, project requirements, timelines, and profitability.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office 365 [Outlook, Sharepoint], email, spreadsheets, shared electronic files, and other business software.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities and active projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Ability to travel to client meetings and project sites as required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, construction management, or a related field is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
Our Culture and the Right Fit:

We are a close-knit, growing company where each person’s work affects the entire team. We are looking for someone who takes ownership, communicates openly, and follows through on commitments. The right person will be comfortable working independently while staying closely connected to Sales, Operations, Purchasing, and Administration.

  • Accountable and dependable: You do what you say you will do and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Collaborative: You share information, respect established processes, and work toward the best result for the client and the company.
  • Proactive: You identify issues early, ask questions, and take appropriate action rather than allowing problems to grow.
  • Organized and responsive: You keep accurate records, manage details, and communicate in a timely manner.
  • Adaptable and solutions-focused: You can adjust as schedules, site conditions, and customer needs change without losing sight of the goal.
  • Committed to improvement: You welcome feedback, continue learning, and look for practical ways to strengthen how we work.
What We Offer:
  • A full-time position with a growing, family-owned company
  • A flexible work environment after successful completion of training
  • Hands-on exposure to multiple areas of the business
  • Training and the opportunity to learn increasingly complex administrative and operational responsibilities
  • A collaborative team that values integrity, humility, service, accountability, and respect
  • Paid PTO
  • Paid holidays
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Participation in company 401k plan after 1 year of employment
