Job summary

Mission Critical Group (MCG) designs and builds electrical power systems for data centers and critical infrastructure. The Sales Engineer bridges technical and commercial teams to translate customer needs into compelling proposals and accurate scope definitions.

You will collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Estimating and Operations to deliver technically sound solutions, support pricing, and ensure clear communication throughout the opportunity lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and equipment configurations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for non-technical audiences.

Job description

The Sales Engineer serves as a technical and commercial resource supporting the sales process from opportunity identification through proposal development and customer support. This role partners closely with Sales, Engineering, Estimating, and Operations to develop technically sound, competitive solutions that meet customer requirements. The Sales Engineer is responsible for interpreting customer specifications, developing technical proposals, supporting pricing and scope development, and ensuring clear communication between customers and internal teams.

Accountabilities
  • Support the sales process by serving as the technical subject matter expert for customer inquiries, RFQs, and project opportunities.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and scope of documents to determine technical requirements and solution feasibility.
  • Develop technical proposals, submittal packages, and supporting documentation for electrical power distribution and mission-critical equipment solutions.
  • Partner with Estimating and Supply Chain to develop accurate pricing assumptions and material requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to confirm product configurations, lead times, manufacturing capabilities, and cost drivers.
  • Participate in customer meetings and calls to clarify requirements, support solution development, and address technical questions.
  • Provide technical guidance to Sales during negotiations and scope of discussions.
  • Support internal project handoff by ensuring accurate scope of definition, documentation, completeness, and alignment across departments.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of proposal templates, technical documentation standards, and sales engineering processes.
  • Maintain working knowledge of product lines, industry codes, and customer requirements.
  • Track and support bid/proposal timelines to ensure on-time submission.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Receive positive feedback from team leaders or operators on responsiveness and attitude.
  • Safety Compliance: Zero safety violations or incidents; full adherence to PPE and safety protocol.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in sales engineering, applications engineering, estimating, or technical proposal support in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and equipment configurations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 60%.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure, data centers, utilities, or industrial customers.
  • Knowledge of switchgear, transformers, power distribution equipment, generators, UPS systems, or related electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL standards, IEEE standards, or similar.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and/or CRM tools (SmartRecruiters is HR; Salesforce or similar if applicable).
  • Prior experience supporting custom engineered-to-order products.
  • Ideally, candidate is based in West Chester, PA, McKinney, TX, or Belle Chasse, LA. Additional consideration to candidates in Midwest to Atlantic Regions.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • FLSA executive and professional positions paid on a salary basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
  • This role will work in an office setting, however, frequent visits to the production floor are required to oversee operations, ensure compliance and safety standards, and engage staff.
    • Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
    • Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    • Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to twenty-five (25) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
    • Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
