Summary

Based in NC, this position will work directly with customers to develop solutions and drive specification and commercialization while expanding current territories. This person will employ a hands‑on, problem‑solving, technical approach to application development. It is a significant opportunity to enter a profitable, high‑tech business at a very early stage and participate in the building of that business. This person will build pipeline opportunities while closing existing ones, driving and accelerating the growth engine of our business in North America.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop in‑depth understanding of Kolsterising and other S3P technology features and benefits, applying them in target industries at the OEM level where possible.
  • Drive S3P sales to meet budget and strategic plan revenue/profit targets.
  • Maintain regular follow‑up with customers on projects, driving their specification of the process and ultimately the commercialization of customer programs.
  • Grow the project pipeline and develop business with a hands‑on approach, through customer presentations, processing trials, and regular contact with technical and other staff at the customer.
  • Work directly with customers and develop viable material choices and designs utilizing Kolsterising and other S3P treatments.
  • Work closely with our R&D and manufacturing teams to develop answers to technical product questions and any other aspects of the product necessary to facilitate scale‑up and commercialization.
  • Present technology to technical groups and organizations and become the surface hardening of the SS industry’s subject matter expert.
  • Develop and execute strategic market plans to promote Kolsterising through different market segments.
  • Collate and obtain competitor intelligence to build a detailed understanding of the technical, operational, and economic strengths, capabilities, and limitations of other surface hardening providers, as well as competing technologies.
  • Manage contractual agreements and ensure compliance with existing customers. Work together with the VP Global Sales and Business Development S3P on negotiating customer terms of business, including price agreements and preferential long‑term commercial agreements where appropriate with new customers to underpin long‑term business relationships and sustained sales revenues.
  • Maintain and develop cross‑functional business relationships with key decision makers, at all organizational levels, Bodycote, and customers, to ensure maximum visibility of new sales opportunities and to position Bodycote as the preferred solution for surface hardening SS in order to maximize quotation conversion.
  • Develop & maintain technical marketing literature, designed to market key attributes, and teach the customer how to succeed with our processes.
  • Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co‑workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
  • May have access to proprietary and third‑party information necessary to the business, and as such will perform duties in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Travel +60%.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or a similar field of study.
  • This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders.
  • Hands‑on technical development skills with stainless steel (preferred but not required), mechanical, and functional parts.
  • Ability to translate customer application requirements into product performance attributes – inventive, creative, problem‑solving approach.
  • Proactively and frequently interface with customers and other involved Bodycote personnel on project status.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Strong working capability with PC systems and tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, CRM, etc.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiar with the stage‑gate (or similar product development) process and R&D project management.
  • Experience with key target segments and customers – semiconductor, medical devices, industrial fluid handling, food processing equipment, etc.
Physical & Mental Demands
  • Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, and/or on airplane travel) in an office/industrial environment.
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
