Job summary

Navy Exchange Service Command in Newport, RI is hiring a sales associate to be the face of our brand and help customers understand our products and services. Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Summary

As a sales associate you will be the face of our company. You will be directly responsible for assisting customers and helping them recognize the need for our products and services. Must be capable of learning about what we sell and are able to articulate our purpose in a manner that is educational, insightful and professional. Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Proactively engage and make a connection with customers; ask questions and listen to their needs.
  • Provide premier customer service; build positive, inclusive, respectful relationships and take accountability for your own actions and outcomes.
  • Maintain store appearance.
  • Cross‑sell products and know the store layout; make suggestions on latest trends and current promotions based on individual needs.
  • Upsell products.
  • Use a Point‑of‑Sales system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards; handle cash and count money accurately.
  • Complete paperwork reports and reconcile as required.
  • Handle inventory: keep merchandise checked in and ticketed; participate in periodic inventories.
  • Adhere to assigned work schedule; ensure accurate and complete follow‑through on work assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Basic knowledge of products and merchandise.
  • Retail experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to write and interpret instructional documents.
  • Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Reasoning ability: multi‑task while being attentive to customers and flexible to business needs; work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical abilities: move, talk, hear, reach, grab, stand for at least two consecutive hours; stoop, kneel, crouch, climb ladders; lift 25–50 lbs; vision requirements.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, energetic and desire to provide outstanding service.
  • Available to work a variety of hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education

No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
