Safety & Training Coordinator

Location: Legacy Bakehouse Cudahy & Waukesha, WI

Department: Operations / HR / EHS

Position Summary

The Safety & Training Coordinator is responsible for leading and integrating workplace safety and employee training programs across the facility. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while building a highly skilled, safety-focused workforce. The position plays a critical role in aligning safety performance with employee capability by ensuring every employee is trained, qualified, and equipped to perform their job safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
Safety Management
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety programs in compliance with OSHA and company standards
  • Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to proactively identify hazards
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Maintain safety metrics, documentation, and reporting systems
  • Facilitate safety meetings, committees, and awareness initiatives
  • Promote a proactive, engaged safety culture across all departments
Training & Workforce Development
  • Own and manage the facility-wide training program, covering all employees and departments
  • Design and deliver new hire onboarding and orientation programs, including safety and food safety training
  • Develop and maintain standardized training materials, including SOP-based instructions and competency checklists
  • Establish and oversee a training matrix to track qualifications, certifications, and cross-training
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and quality training requirements (GMPs, HACCP, allergen control, sanitation)
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready training records and documentation
  • Coordinate and deliver ongoing, refresher, and corrective training based on performance gaps or process changes
  • Partner with leaders to identify skill gaps and workforce development needs
  • Drive cross-training initiatives to improve operational flexibility
  • Deliver training across all shifts, including off-hours as needed
Compliance & Audit Readiness
  • Ensure all safety and training programs meet regulatory and customer standards
  • Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and demonstrating program effectiveness
  • Maintain continuous audit readiness across both safety and training functions
Strategic Impact
  • Serves as the link between safety compliance and employee capability, ensuring not only a safe workplace but a fully trained and effective workforce
  • Drives improvements in safety performance, employee retention, and operational consistency through structured training systems
  • Builds and sustains a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and safety ownership across the organization
  • Enhances audit readiness and food safety compliance through standardized, well-documented programs
  • Partners with leadership to align training strategies with operational goals, improving productivity, quality, and workforce agility
  • Develops a workforce that is skilled, compliant, and adaptable to changing business needs
Qualifications
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish preferred)
  • Experience in manufacturing safety and/or training coordination (food industry preferred)
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, training systems, reporting tools)
  • Experience developing training programs and maintaining records
  • Knowledge of OSHA and food safety standards (GMPs, HACCP preferred)
