Job summary

Newell Brands is seeking a Safety Technician to support OSHA/Cal/OSHA compliant EHS programs in a distribution and warehouse setting. The role emphasizes identifying hazards, conducting audits, and promoting a safe workplace under corporate safety standards.

You will lead safety training, support incident investigations, and develop preventive actions to reduce risks while maintaining records and assisting emergency planning.

Qualifications

• Experience in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations.
• Ability to conduct investigations, inspections, audits, and safety training.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and safety reporting systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and corporate EHS standards.
• Assist with safety program development, implementation, and maintenance.
• Track and follow up on corrective and preventive actions resulting from audits and inspections.
• Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and property damage events.
• Conduct root cause analyses using methodologies such as the 5-Why process.
• Develop corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.
• Maintain incident records and assist with OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
• Coordinate with site leadership during emergency situations and incident response activities.

Position Summary

The Safety Technician supports the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs within a distribution and warehouse environment. This position is responsible for promoting a safe workplace, ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, company policies, and corporate safety standards, reducing workplace risks, and supporting site leadership in achieving safety performance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Compliance & Auditing

• Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and workplace assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
• Monitor compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and corporate EHS standards.
• Assist with safety program development, implementation, and maintenance.
• Track and follow up on corrective and preventive actions resulting from audits and inspections.
• Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and property damage events.
• Conduct root cause analyses using methodologies such as the 5-Why process.
• Develop corrective and preventive action plans to reduce recurrence.

Training & Employee Engagement

• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, contractors, and visitors.
• Facilitate hands-on training sessions, including fire extinguisher use, hazard recognition, and emergency response.
• Support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs and promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
• Develop and communicate safety awareness materials, toolbox talks, and microlearning content.
• Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments.
• Evaluate workplace ergonomics and recommend improvements to reduce musculoskeletal injury risks.
• Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication, Powered Industrial Truck, and other safety programs.
• Assist departments in implementing engineering and administrative controls to mitigate hazards.

Contractor & Visitor Safety

• Review contractor safety documentation and qualifications.
• Verify compliance with site onboarding, orientation, and contractor safety requirements.
• Ensure vendors and contractors adhere to site-specific safety expectations and corporate standards.

Safety Data & Reporting

• Collect, analyze, and report safety performance metrics.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual safety reports for management.
• Monitor safety trends and recommend improvement opportunities.Maintain safety documentation, training records, and compliance files.
• Support emergency response planning and drills.
• Assist with fire protection inspections and emergency equipment readiness.
• Coordinate with site leadership during emergency situations and incident response activities.

Qualifications
