Job Summary:

The Safety Technician is responsible for several activities, including waste consolidation, segregation, and preparation for shipping/disposal. The technician will perform facility inspections which include machine shops, production work areas, warehouse, and office workspaces; along with providing recommendations for corrective actions. The Technician will perform safety training on a variety of topics to employees and review the company's policies and procedures to ensure that the operational processes adhere to the internal guidelines and federal, state, and local regulations. The safety technician must have excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.

The primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities that usually make up the job description of a Safety technician are shown below:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations; cite dangerous areas and processes and recommend corrective action.
  • Distribute and track issuance of PPE to company staff according to employee role, tasks, and department.
  • Monitor company PPE inventory and replenish supplies accordingly.
  • Prepare, distribute, and post various health and safety material and announcements.
  • Assist in spill clean-up as needed.
  • Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and training.
  • Maintain SDS (MSDS) formal document library; update SDS’s as needed.
  • Maintain the Company Dashboard and applicable OSHA occupational injury logs and report safety statistics as required.
  • Coordinates clean-up or remediation activities at facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating the daily activities of safety in support of the operations team.
  • Assist management in near-miss and incident reporting and investigation.
  • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in driving continuous improvement through safety analyses, audits, and investigations.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating environmental compliance for hazardous waste, storm-water, and air permits.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Assist in driving employees to the clinic for random checks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Occupational health and safety associate’s degree, or certificate from an accredited community college or vocational school are strongly preferred.
  • Three to five years of relevant experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of Federal EPA/OSHA, State, and local policies, and regulations in the manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
  • Computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based programs are required.
  • Requires effective time management skills and personal conduct.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

Special Certificate or Course Requirements:

  • Completion of the OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training course and/or the 24 or 8-hour annual refresher course within the past 12 months is desirable.
  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry

Pay Range

  • $18-$24/hr
