Job summary

The ComTran Group, a Quanta Services company, seeks a Safety Technician to support the Director of Safety and promote a proactive safety culture on underground utility construction sites. You will travel to Georgia-area projects, coach crews, and assist with investigations and training.

The role emphasizes field work, strong communication, and adherence to OSHA/DOT/EPA standards, with opportunities to impact safety practices on multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of construction/utility industry experience, or strong relevant experience with Safety background.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Safety with implementation of the company safety management system.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled jobsite safety inspections throughout Georgia and surrounding states.
  • Observe work activities and identify opportunities for hazard elimination and risk reduction.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors and field employees on safe work practices.
  • Assist with incident, injury, vehicle accident, and near-miss investigations.
  • Collect evidence, photographs, witness statements, and documentation for investigations.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, customer, and company safety requirements.
  • Perform equipment, vehicle, trailer, and tool inspections.
  • Review Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs)
  • Assist in delivering new hire orientation and ongoing safety training.
  • Ensure compliance in toolbox talks and field safety meetings.
  • Assist with recordkeeping, safety metrics, inspection reports, and corrective action tracking.
  • Promote Stop Work Authority and a culture where employees actively identify and correct hazards.
  • Assist with emergency response planning and post-incident follow-up.
  • Travel to project locations as needed.

About this Role

The Comtran Group is seeking a motivated and safety-focusedSafety Technicianto support our Director of Safety in promoting a proactive safety culture across underground utility construction operations. This position plays a critical role in helping ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, DOT requirements, and customer safety expectations while assisting field leadership in developing safe work practices.

The Safety Technician will regularly visit active job sites, coach employees, conduct inspections and audits, assist with incident investigations, and support safety training initiatives throughout the organization. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys working in the field, building relationships with crews, and helping others perform their jobs safely.

What You'll Do

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections or audits.

Working Conditions

  • Approximately 75–90% field work.
  • Frequent driving to active construction sites.
  • Exposure to heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, heavy equipment, and uneven terrain.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  • Flexible schedule to support field operations.
