Responsibilities

  • Oversee safe plant and machinery, and proper handling of materials and substances.
  • Provide first aid and welfare facilities and support.
  • Communicate health, safety policies and procedures to staff and contractors.
  • Assess health and safety risks and implement required controls.
  • Report incidents promptly and support investigations for root cause analysis.
  • Coordinate with authorities and customers for audits and compliance.

Job description

The Mundy Companies, a leader in the industrial maintenance, services, and construction fields, is currently hiring the following for a long-term position in the Beaumont, Texas area.

SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Successful candidates will have a minimum of three (3) years of continuous and current experience as a Safety Technician in a petrochemical, industrial, or manufacturing environment. The Safety Technician oversees projects and maintenance and will ensure compliance of standards, processes, communications, training, and systems. The Safety Technician for projects and maintenance must be flexible at all times. Roles and responsibilities are subject to change based on the immediate needs of the site. Must have the following computer skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, as well as the ability to learn and comprehend the Mundy Site Automation Systems.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Existence and awareness of a suitable and relevant health and safety policy
  • A safe workplace without risk to health
  • Safe plant and machinery, and safe movement, storage and use of articles and substances
  • Adequate provision of first aid and welfare facilities and support
  • Provision of suitable and current information and supervision concerning health and safety policies, procedures and practices
  • Proper and timely assessment of risk to health and safety, and implementation of measures and arrangements identified as necessary from assessments
  • Provision of emergency procedures, first-aid facilities, safety signs, relevant protective clothing and equipment, and incident reporting to the relevant authorities
  • Liaison as necessary with customer and relevant authorities, and assistance and cooperation concerning audits and remedial actions
  • The workplace satisfies health, safety, and welfare requirements for ventilation, temperature, lighting, sanitary, washing, rest facilities and lunchroom facilities
  • Prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous materials, and danger form flammable, explosive, caustic, electrical, noise, radiation and manual holding risks
  • Surveillance and reporting on health and safety practices and systems
  • All Mundy Incidents are reported immediately to the Mundy Site Manager
  • All incident investigations are conducted to determine the "Root Cause" for all incidents involving Mundy personnel
  • The development of corrective action plans/procedures to minimize the risk for repeat incidents
  • Active participation in the Safety Awareness Program
  • The Safety Awareness Data is maintained in a database so that we can target problem areas which will enable the company to target problem areas
  • Corrective actions are in place to address the deficiencies reported through the Safety Awareness Program
  • Daily Safety Audits are conducted on the site
  • First Report of Injury forms are completed and forwarded to the company’s Workers Compensation Carrier within 24 hrs
  • Full compliance of the site’s inspection program related to ladders, slings/chokers, electrical tools, hoist, come-a-longs, fire extinguishers, eyewash/safety shower stations-Mundy locations, hoses, cranes, forklifts, etc
  • Updated Material and Documentation is maintained in all Safety & Health Manuals
  • Adequate housekeeping is being enforced in and around all Mundy Facilities
  • Adequate housekeeping measures are in place in the business units where our employees are performing individual task on a daily basis
  • Site specific training material and tests are developed on an as needed basis

The successful candidate will maintain a high degree of personal safety and environmental awareness at all time. This positions requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions in a safe, efficient manner. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing is also required. All qualified applicants must be craft certified or possess the ability to pass a craft test, as well as the ability to pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen and other qualifications as required.
