Job summary

UPS Industrial Services is seeking a Safety Supervisor to promote and maintain a safe work environment on construction projects in Texas. You will serve as the on-site safety resource, providing guidance, training, inspections, and support to achieve a culture of safety.

You will work closely with the Project Manager and field personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies. This role requires travel up to 75% and supervision of safety staff, with responsibilities

Qualifications

• OSHA 510 certification is required.
• Travel up to 75% for projects is required.
• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• 5+ years of crane and steel experience is preferred.
• 4 years in petrochemical, industrial, or construction safety roles is preferred.
• CHST/CSST or related safety certifications are a plus.
• First Responder or equivalent medical training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit safety reports (monthly, weekly, daily logs, injuries, client reports).
• Administer safety programs and PPE procurement and use.
• Coordinate emergency response and medical transportation.
• Conduct safety training, orientations, and coaching for employees.
• Maintain training records and ensure certifications are up to date.
• Inspect workplaces, perform safety observations, and implement corrective actions.
• Investigate incidents and Recommend preventive measures.
• Supervise safety personnel and enforce policies.

Job description

The Safety Supervisor is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment by preventing accidents and minimizing risks to employees, contractors, the public, company property, equipment, and facilities. This position works closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and field personnel to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.

The Safety Supervisor serves as the on-site safety resource, providing guidance, training, inspections, and support to help achieve a culture of safety throughout the project.

• Must successfully pass a drug screening.
• Must successfully pass a background check.
• Must possess a valid TWIC card.
• Must successfully pass a physical examination and PFT/FIT test.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead by example.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
• Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time for projects.

Safety Program Administration

• Maintain current knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable state safety and health standards.
• Monitor regulatory changes and communicate updates to management and employees.
• Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and safety observations.
• Assist management in developing and implementing corrective actions.
• Support the selection, procurement, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Coordinate and administer safety recognition and incentive programs.
• Monitor and evaluate subcontractor safety performance.
• Participate in incident investigations and recommend preventive measures.
• Maintain training records and verify employee compliance with required certifications.

Emergency Response

• Provide or coordinate emergency medical response when required.
• Assist with emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
• Arrange transportation for injured employees when necessary.

Employee Development

• Conduct safety orientations, meetings, and training sessions.
• Provide ongoing safety coaching and evaluations for employees.
• Mentor less experienced employees and promote safe work practices.

Essential Functions

• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, management, clients, and subcontractors.
• Enforce company safety policies and applicable OSHA/ANSI standards.
• Evaluate tasks and identify appropriate equipment and safe work methods.
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper equipment setup and safe operating procedures.
• Work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and night shifts as required.
• Follow and communicate verbal and written instructions effectively.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by field supervision.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

• OSHA 510 certification.
• 75% Travel Required.

Preferred

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• 5 plus years of Crane and Steel experience
• Four (4) years of experience in the petrochemical, industrial, or construction industry.
• Two (2) years of experience in a safety-related role.
• CHST Certification (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or CSST Certification (Construction Site Safety Technician) Preferred.
• First Responder certification or equivalent medical training.
• Additional safety certifications are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout a worksite for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
• Sufficient physical stamina to perform field-based responsibilities.
• Frequent use of phones, computers, and other office equipment.

• Ability to operate standard office equipment, including telephones, copiers, scanners, and printers.
• Familiarity with common hand tools and safety equipment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provides direct supervision to assigned safety personnel.
• Supports employee development through coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
• Assists management in enforcing company safety policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

This position operates primarily in industrial field and shop environments. Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical equipment, elevated work areas, uneven terrain, varying weather conditions, and other job-site hazards. Appropriate PPE is required at all times. Noise levels may range from moderate to high depending on project activities.
