JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Superintendent will be responsible for providing support to the project management team, supervisors, foreman and workers. This position is responsible for promoting all elements of the companies Safety Program with coordination from the project’s management execution team, and the Safety Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Communicate with project foreman, superintendents, and project managers any observed or anticipated safety concerns
- Lead site weekly safety meetings as scheduled, and conduct safety inspections to identify and correct any hazardous conditions such as noise, toxic and any other noticeable hazards
- Generate report of findings during tests with recommendations for corrective action
- Implement and remain familiar with jobsite emergency medical response requirements for dealing with jobsite injuries
- Maintain all required recordkeeping including all reports related to injuries, accidents and near misses
- Maintain all environmental issue records including but not limited to safety data sheets (SDS), monitoring test results
- Oversee that Safety Representatives have posted all required safety job site postings
- Provide direction and planning for the site safety team to help enable a safe job site
- Assist Safety Representatives with the following:
- Inspect properties including but not limited to buildings, industrial operations, vehicles, equipment, and personal protective equipment to evaluate physical conditions, safety practices and identify hazardous situations
- Observing field personnel while performing duties and report any laxity in safety precautions
- Analyze history of incidents and inspect areas to determine causes and to develop accident prevention programs
- Investigate accidents or incidents to ascertain causes and report to management
- Instruct employees on the proper use of safety equipment and safe work methods
- Inspects specified areas for safety equipment including but not limited to fire prevention equipment, first aid supplies, additional safety equipment
- Prepares monthly reports and statistical comparisons related to the project’s safety performance
- Enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Monitor changes to compliance laws
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies (including client’s) while promoting the Company’s safety culture.
- Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience preferred in safety within the construction or petrochemical industry
- Valid and current certifications in first aid, CPR and OSHA 30 hour (construction preferred)
SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of applicable construction codes, policies, standards, and best practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and employees at all levels.
- Knowledge of all relevant local, state, and federal laws
- Strong communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents such as scopes of work, and project schedule.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information.
- Must be proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented.
- Strong analytical skills required to understand and interpret data.
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
- Ability to quickly learn the organizations systems.
- Must be able to work non-routine hours, when necessary.
- Must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required for out-of-town travel assignments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Ability to stand for long periods of time which may consist of 8 or more hours
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another constantly perform repeating motions with feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers to include walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, gripping, climbing
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs and scaffolds
- Ability to walk on beams and narrow surfaces at and above ground level
- Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
