Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified MSHA Instructor, Underground required.
  • Bachelor's or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Mining, or related field preferred; experience may substitute.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and continuous improvement of a proactive site safety culture.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for Safety & Occupational Health department, including staffing and training.
  • Coordinate MSHA and State inspections, meetings, and corrective-action closeout activities.
  • Maintain current MSHA regulations knowledge and ensure site compliance.
  • Coordinate investigations of accidents, incidents, and near-misses; implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct workplace safety audits and follow up on deficiencies.
  • Develop and evaluate site safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Manage Intelex Safety Management System.
  • Plan safety meetings and safety communications for employees.
  • Manage industrial hygiene monitoring and testing programs.
  • Conduct new-hire MSHA training and annual refresher training.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response programs.

Position Overview

At Mining Americas, Inc. - Copperstone Mine, safety is not just a priority, it’s a core value. We are seeking a Health & Safety Superintendent to join our team and play a key role in supporting, strengthening, and advancing our safety culture across the operation.

This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about safety, enjoys working directly with crews in the field, and brings both analytical capability and strong communication skills to the table.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of a strong, proactive site safety culture
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Safety & Occupational Health department, including staffing, training, performance management, and daily workflow
  • Coordinate MSHA and State Mine Inspector inspections, meetings, and corrective-action closeout activities
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of current MSHA regulations and ensure site compliance with applicable safety and health requirements
  • Coordinate and participate in accident, incident, and near-miss investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented
  • Conduct and coordinate workplace safety audits and inspections and follow up on identified deficiencies
  • Develop, implement, and continually evaluate site safety policies, procedures, systems, and training programs
  • Manage the site’s Intelex Safety Management System
  • Plan and coordinate site safety meetings and employee safety communications
  • Manage the site’s industrial hygiene monitoring and testing programs
  • Conduct new-hire MSHA training and annual MSHA refresher training
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and response programs
  • Prepare, review, and maintain required safety documentation, reports, statistics, and regulatory records
  • Review accident and incident reports for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
  • Address employee safety concerns and facilitate effective safety communication among employees, contractors, departments, and site leadership
  • Provide technical support related to workers' compensation management
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certified MSHA Instructor required, Underground
  • College or university degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Mining, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute for formal education
  • Minimum of 10 years of Safety & Health experience in a mining operation, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Thorough working knowledge of current MSHA regulations, standards, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with emergency preparedness and response programs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead safety programs and influence a strong safety culture across all levels of an organization
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and crisis-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced mining environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Primarily field-based in an active underground mining environment
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and wear required PPE, including respirator when needed
  • Expected to maintain high ethical standards and handle confidential information appropriately
  • Participation in on-call coverage as needed
