**
The Safety Specialist is responsible for identifying and mitigating workplace hazards by developing and implementing safety procedures, conducting safety training, investigating accidents, performing safety audits, and ensuring compliance with relevant safety regulations, all with the goal of maintaining a safe working environment for employees
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
**
- Maintain OSHA compliance in all procedures and policies
- Responsible for overseeing both Monroe and Romulus facility
- Provide initial new-hire safety training and follow-up
- Conduct all accident, incident and near-miss investigations and partner with appropriate departments to implement changes
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures
- Inspect work sites to ensure working conditions are in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies
- Check safety devices for proper working conditions
- Attend all safety committee meetings, build and distribute meeting agenda, take meeting
minutes and ensure all necessary paperwork is ready for meeting
- Conduct monthly safety crew meetings or safety toolbox topics
- Build and maintain S.O.P.’s (standard operating procedures) for all Port jobs and facilities
- Fill out necessary workers comp claim paperwork and follow up
- Maintain OSHA 300 log
- Responsible for all Port owned road and rail signage and safety compliance with ODOT
regulations
- Maintain employee CDL certifications (schedule medical tests, schedule driving tests, ensure
paperwork is updated at DMV and tracking of expiration dates)
- Maintain fire extinguisher monthly and annual maintenance checks
- Hazard identification: Assessing workplaces to identify potential safety risks and hazards.
- Safety program development: Creating and implementing safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to address identified hazards.
- Safety training delivery: Conducting regular safety training sessions for employees on proper procedures and equipment usage.
- Accident investigation: Investigating workplace accidents to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.
- Compliance monitoring: Ensuring adherence to all applicable safety regulations and standards.
- Safety audits and inspections: Performing regular safety audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement.
- Incident reporting: Maintaining accurate records of safety incidents and near misses.
- Communication and awareness: Promoting a safety culture by communicating safety information to employees and management.
- Data analysis: Analyzing safety data to identify trends and prioritize safety initiatives.

- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional - CSP) is a plus
Experience/Education Including Licenses And Certifications
- 2 – 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety or in a relevant or related technical field
- Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information from various sources including websites and instruction manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, coworkers, and customers.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as profitability, discounts, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to develop mathematical models to analyze data, forecast future results, and determine best courses of action.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Primarily sedentary work with some standing, walking, stooping, and reaching involved. A large portion of the job involves typing, hearing, and speaking. Some lifting is required.

- Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
- **Work Environment:
Low risks or discomforts, required alertness while moving around machines with hot or cold moving parts. Moderate noise with computers and printers, occasionally, in plant with machinery noise.
