Job summary

Maverick Power in Garland, TX is seeking a Safety Specialist to support our Health, Safety & Environmental program. Under limited supervision, you will monitor the facility for safety risks, lead investigations, and drive corrective actions.

You will conduct training, orientation, and safety briefings, coordinate emergency drills, and travel to other Maverick Power facilities as needed. A Bachelor’s in safety and CSP/ASP or equivalent are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety (OHS) required.
  • Board Certified Safety Professional certifications (ASP, CSP, OHST, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Electrical Safety – Control of Hazardous Energy – NFPA 70E knowledge required.
  • Minimum 1 year of construction site safety experience.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Begin the shift on the production floor and monitor safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws.
  • Lead near-miss and incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
  • Document unsafe acts and conditions and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Lead first aid and emergency response activities for the facility.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and required trainings.
  • Educate and mentor employees on safety practices.
  • Coordinate safety briefs with contractors and collect safety reports.
  • Prepare safety forms and reports per procedures and regulations.
  • Manage daily, quarterly, and annual inspections of PPE and safety equipment.
  • Support crisis management and emergency action plans.
  • Lead emergency preparedness drills (fire and severe weather).
  • Compile data and maintain safety records for long-term storage.
  • Participate in safety meetings to identify training opportunities.
  • Participate in New Product Introductions to address safety concerns.

About the Role

Under limited supervision, the Safety Specialist will be providing front line support for our Health, Safety & Environmental program for your assigned facility. This role will require a high level of engagement and initiative. You will be monitoring the facility for emerging issues and risks and ensuring they are addressed. The position will report to the Director of Quality & HSE but will also take direction from the Corporate Safety Professional who will provide front line support for HSE at all Maverick Power facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Begins the shift on the production floor, aligning with the teams and participating in pre-task plans and stretch and flex, ensuring teams understand the risks and have what they need to work safely. (Upwards of 80% of the job is spent on the production floor observing, performing audits, and interacting with the employees).
  • Monitor the sites for compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental legal requirements and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance.
  • Perform near miss and incident investigations (injury or property damage), lead root cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
  • Identify, document, and recommend resolutions for unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and employee safety suggestions; follow through to ensure corrections and or improvements have been made.
  • Lead the first aid and emergency response activities for assigned facility and provides care for injured employees as needed.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and required training classes.
  • Continuously educate, coach, and mentor employees on Safety
  • Conduct safety briefs with all contractors or subcontractors who will be working at a Maverick Power facility to ensure they understand our safety requirements.
  • Compile safety data, photographs, etc.; prepare all appropriate forms and reports per program procedures, company policy, and federal, state, and local accident regulations.
  • Ensure all daily, quarterly, and annual inspections are completed. (PPE, Equipment, tools, fire extinguishers, sprinklers, fall protection, assured grounding, etc.)
  • Support crisis management and emergency action plans as required.
  • Lead emergency preparedness drills (fire & severe weather).
  • Documents findings, compiles information, creates detailed reports, analyzes data, and tracks progress. Maintains files and records for long term storage.
  • Participate in meetings to represent Safety and identify training opportunities and upcoming high-risk work.
  • Participate in New Product Introductions and kickoff meetings to identify and address any safety concerns prior to beginning a project.
  • May perform and record HSE testing and sampling utilizing tools like a dosimeter, light meter, multi-gas meter, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel to and support other local Maverick Power facilities as needed
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety (OHS) and minimum of 3 years of experience working full-time in a Safety position in a Manufacturing / Assembly environment
  • Board Certified Safety Professional Certifications (ASP, CSP, OHST, etc., or equivalent)
  • Electrical Safety – Control of Hazardous Energy – NAPF 70 E
  • Minimum of 1 year of construction site safety experience
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain professional and calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to immediately correct unsafe acts and unsafe conditions with all levels of employees.
  • Native Proficiency or Full Professional Proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Detailed knowledge of HSE regulatory requirements – OSHA general industry and construction
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle to travel to work or other facilities to support safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Vietnamese and or Spanish is a plus, but not required
Physical Requirements
  • Must have full range of dexterity in all body parts.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able climb ladders, stairs, and work from heights as needed.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and squat.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts, dollies, pallet jacks, etc...
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required.
  • Must be able to identify the full spectrum of colors.
  • Must have vision correctable to 20/20 and able to perform work while wearing safety glasses
  • (contact lenses are not allowed in manufacturing/production areas)
  • Work maybe indoor or outdoor, climates vary by location and season.
  • Hot, cold, humid, wet conditions are possible at times.
  • May encounter loud noises, flashing lights, strong smells, insects, and dust.
  • Extended periods of time on feet and walking on concreate floors, standing on hard surfaces or irregular terrain, walking on level surfaces or irregular terrain, climbing ladders and steps, bending, sitting, twisting, or pushing may be required at times.
Work Environment:

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings. Maintaining the same position or posture while performing tasks and sitting for prolonged periods.
