Job summary

Westhab is seeking a Safety Security Officer for the Evening FO2 shift in Manhattan. This full-time position supports a 24-hour homeless shelter, with relief duties and mandated overtime.

The role reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager. Responsibilities include inspecting rooms, controlling main entrance access, conducting rounds, documenting incidents, assisting with client intakes, and performing desk duties with CCTV and alarm systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; NYS Security Guard License and 8-Hour Annual Certificate required.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred (F02).
• Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred; flexible shifts and overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients' rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Monitor clients' behavior and enforce facility policies.
• Control access at the main entrance with magnetometer or x-ray to prevent weapons entering.
• Document crises and interventions with incident reporting.
• Make hourly rounds of the facility including all areas.
• Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
• Maintain logs and property records for AWOL clients.
• Operate and monitor CCTV, alarms, and fire safety systems.
• Coordinate with police, fire department, and first responders as directed.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Operations

LOCATION: All boroughs, NYC

SALARY: $19.65 hourly

SUMMARY:

The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property at a homeless shelter. Operations within our facility are 24 hours. This is a relief position that requires face-to-face relief with mandated overtime. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSABILITIES:

• Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms
• Escort clients to appointments as needed
• Interact with and monitor clients' behavior, maintaining a good rapport by providing excellent customer service. Encourage clients to comply with the facility's policies and procedures.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors with a magnetometer or x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
• Perform Crisis Intervention to de-escalate potential crises and document all such situations and interventions.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the entire facility, including all hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
• Respond to incidents
• Assist with client intakes
• Perform daily pack-ups and logging of client property belonging to AWOL clients
• Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired
• Maintain a clean and organized storage area
• Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
• Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
• Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk; monitor video surveillance cameras, and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system.
• Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing Fire procedures.
• Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
• Mandated overtime
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED. Prior security experience required. Must have NYS Security Guard License and current 8-Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred F02. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
