Job summary

Westhab Inc. is seeking a Safety Security Officer for the Bronx evening shift. This full-time role requires 24-hour facility operations, mandatory overtime, and close interaction with clients and staff.

You will perform rounds, screen entrances, handle incident reporting, and support emergency procedures. A valid NYS Security Guard License and CPI certification are preferred. Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to work flexible shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with security experience.
• Must have NYS Security Guard License and 8-Hour Annual Certificate.
• Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred (F02).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections of clients' rooms.
• Escort clients to appointments as needed.
• Monitor behavior and maintain rapport with clients.
• Screen visitors with magnetometer/x-ray to prevent weapons.
• Document crises, intervene, and report incidents.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the facility and respond to incidents.
• Assist with client intakes and manage storage of property.
• Operate operations desk duties and monitor CCTV and alarms.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DIVISION: Operations

LOCATION: Bronx, NY

SALARY: $19.65 hourly

SUMMARY:

The Safety Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and the property around the facility in a homeless shelter. Operations within our facility are 24 hours. This is a relief position that requires face-to-face relief with mandatory overtime. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager of the Facility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform daily inspections of all clients’ rooms
• Escort clients to appointments as needed
• Interact with and monitor clients' behavior, maintaining good rapport by providing excellent customer service.Encourage clients to comply with the facility's policies and procedures.
• Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients and visitors, utilizing magnetometer/x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
• Perform Crisis Intervention to de-escalate potential crises and document all such situations and interventions.
• Make hourly rounds throughout the entire facility, including all hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchen, and office spaces.
• Respond to incidents
• Assist with client intakes
• Perform daily pack-ups and logging of client property belonging to AWOL clients
• Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired
• Maintain a clean and organized storage area
• Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
• Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
• Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk; monitor video surveillance cameras, and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system.
• Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, utilizing Fire procedures.
• Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
• Mandatory overtime Required
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED and prior security experience required. Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8-Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred F02. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
