Job summary

JM Davidson Inc is seeking a Construction Safety professional to lead safety initiatives on active construction sites. You will promote a culture of safety, identify hazards, and implement controls while ensuring compliance with OSHA, client, and company requirements.

Your role includes conducting trainings, inspections, audits, and incident investigations, and maintaining accurate safety records. A TWIC card and OSHA 30 or higher certifications are preferred for this field-based position.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily and periodic jobsite safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions, acts, and hazards.
• Review JHAs and pre-task planning to ensure hazards are identified and controlled.
• Conduct and document safety orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and client safety requirements.
• Monitor and enforce programs such as fall protection, confined space, excavation, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, hot work, crane and rigging, respiratory protection, and PPE.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, and property damage to determine causes and prevent recurrence.
• Maintain safety records, inspection documentation, training records, and corrective-action tracking.
• Monitor leading indicators like safety observations, near misses, JHA compliance, inspections, PPE, and corrective actions.

Job description

The Construction Safety professional is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment for employees, subcontractors, and visitors on construction projects. This position provides safety leadership, guidance, training, and field support to ensure work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Safety professional works closely with project management, superintendents, foremen, and employees to identify hazards, implement effective controls, conduct inspections and audits, investigate incidents, and promote a strong safety culture. The position is expected to be actively involved in daily field operations and provide practical solutions that allow work to be completed safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily and periodic jobsite safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts, and potential hazards.
• Review and monitor Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and pre-task planning to ensure hazards are properly identified and controlled.
• Conduct and document employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and required training.
• Ensure employees understand and comply with OSHA, company, and client safety requirements.
• Monitor compliance with critical safety programs, including fall protection, confined space, excavation, lockout/tagout, electrical safety, hot work, crane and rigging, respiratory protection, and PPE.
• Assist supervisors and employees with hazard recognition and the implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
• Investigate injuries, illnesses, near misses, property damage, and other incidents to determine contributing factors and prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate safety records, reports, inspection documentation, training records, and corrective-action tracking.
• Monitor leading indicators such as safety observations, near misses, JHA compliance, inspection findings, PPE compliance, and corrective actions.
• Participate in client and contractor safety meetings and communicate project-specific safety expectations.
• Coordinate required employee training, certifications, medical evaluations, fit testing, and other safety-related requirements.
• Assist with emergency preparedness, evacuation procedures, severe weather planning, and emergency response activities.
• Monitor heat stress and other environmental conditions that may affect employee safety and health.
• Ensure proper PPE selection, use, inspection, and replacement.
• Work with project management to identify safety concerns before work begins and develop effective controls.
• Conduct safety audits and follow up to ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Evaluate subcontractor safety performance and assist with enforcement of project safety requirements.
• Promote employee involvement through safety observations, near-miss reporting, and proactive hazard identification.
• Exercise stop-work authority when an imminent danger or serious safety concern is identified.
• Communicate safety trends, lessons learned, and recurring issues to management and field personnel.
• Assist management in maintaining compliance with OSHA, client, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain professional communication with employees, supervisors, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
• Continuously promote a positive safety culture where employees understand that safety is a shared responsibility.
