Job summary

Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital is seeking a Safety Partner for the Emergency Department. This full-time role covers weekend night shifts (7p–7a) in a 41-bed Level III Trauma ED, focusing on patient safety for at-risk individuals and coordinating with a diverse care team.

Based in Virginia Beach, the position requires a high school diploma and BLS within 90 days. Prior healthcare exposure is preferred, with a focus on de-escalation and fall prevention as core competencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• Experience in healthcare preferred; behavioral health background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe hospital environment for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm or other risk behaviors.
• Assist with patient safety and comfort throughout the hospital stay, supporting individualized care in the ED.

Overview:

Sentara Virginia Beach GH Emergency Department is hiring a Safety Partner to join their team!

Shift: Full Time (36hrs) - Weekend Nights - 7p-7a

Unit Description:

This is a 41-bed Level III Trauma ED with 6 bedsdedicated to a lockdown psychiatric screening and treatment area. We are a stroke certified ED and receive STEMI and psychiatric patients. The ED treats about 150 patients per day with a dedicated radiology suite in the ED for plain film and CT imaging. We have a diverse nursing and ED Tech team.

Job Description:

Assists with the provision of a safe hospital environment conducive to individualized patient care for patients at risk of suicide, falls, wandering, agitation, impulsiveness, self-harm or other risk behaviors enabling patients to maintain or enhance function during the hospital stay.

Education:

• High School Grad or Equivalent

Certification/Licensure:

• BLS required within 90 days of hire.

Experience:

• Prior healthcare experience or enrollment in a health sciences program strongly preferred.
• Background with mental health/behavioral health is a plus!
• Core competencies for all safety partners to include communication, confidentiality, de-escalation, fall prevention, patient safety, restraints, stroke, and suicide.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, and benefits. The base pay range for full-time employment is $17.82 - $25.65 hourly.Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra-shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Compensation within the range may vary based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
