Position Details:

  • Full Time: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
  • Pay Range: $35.69 - $57.10 hourly (actual offer rates are based upon the applicants relevant job experience and the requirements of the position)

The Safety Officer will:

  • Manage, administer, and ensure the operation of the HUH Safety and Occupational Health Program, focusing on the elimination or minimization of human injury, property and productivity losses caused by harmful contact incidents and other safety hazards.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and assessment of the seven Environment of Care Management Plans (Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials and Waste, Emergency Management, Lab Safety, Medical Equipment, and Utility Systems).
  • Conduct periodic facility tours to identify and recommend correction of unsafe conditions and acts that may result in personal injury or property damage.
  • Organize the Hospital's Safety Committee and serve as a member of the Inspection Committee.
  • Prepare and submit reports on safety conditions to OSHA, TJC, D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, insurance companies, and Executive Management.
  • Develop and supervise the posting of evacuation plans, coordinate emergency signage, write procedures for handling contaminants, and oversee safety operations.
  • Identify hazards in the workplace, including physical plant, work processes, man/machine relationships, and environmental conditions affecting staff health and efficiency.
  • Serve as a member of various safety committees.
  • Perform other duties related to the position as needed.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in business continuity, emergency/disaster planning, and familiarity with state and regional standards.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
  • Bachelor's degree required; five (5) years of business continuity planning can substitute for a degree.
  • Master's degree is preferred.
