UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring full-time Safety Officers!

The Safety Officer will provide safety, security, and fire safety functions throughout the Institute daily.

Day and evening shifts are available!

Sign-on bonus up to $1,500!

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct searches according to system and department policies, ensuring proper paperwork and property handling.
2. Meet mandatory education and annual competency requirements, including age-specific competencies.
3. Perform physical restraint techniques to control violent or combative patients, maintaining a safe environment, in accordance with policies and training.
4. Provide relief coverage for safety systems clerks and parking lot attendants as assigned.
5. Conduct safety, security, and fire safety patrols, reporting unsafe conditions and violations.
6. Assist clinical staff in caring for uncooperative patients, visitors, or staff, responding professionally per standards and guidelines.
7. Complete all assignments and communicate effectively through emails and other channels.
8. Assist during emergencies, working with law enforcement, fire, and medical authorities as needed.
9. Maintain professionalism in dress, communication, and service standards.
10. Complete mandatory and recommended training programs.
11. Provide escort services for patients, staff, and visitors as needed.
12. Investigate incident reports related to theft, vandalism, safety, or patient issues.
13. Test alarm systems and safety equipment regularly.
14. Handle and transport patient belongings and medications as per policy.
15. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
16. Preferred: 1 year experience in safety, security, or healthcare-related field; equivalent experience considered.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• Act 235 with or without Firearms (must complete certification within 6-9 months if without).
• CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
• Pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to employment.
• Additional certifications such as Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, Act 73, and FBI Clearance with renewal are required or preferred.
