Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Safety Officer to join our team in Falls Church, Virginia. The position is full-time under the direction of the Program Manager and supports the program’s security personnel. A U.S.

Citizen with an active Top‑Secret Security Clearance is required, with potential TDY to CONUS and OCONUS projects. Key responsibilities include safety inspections, incident investigations, program development, and training.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30-Hour Construction safety training within last five years and 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five years.
• Five years of safety work on similar projects, with preference for U.S. Government and Military projects.
• Knowledge of U.S. Government Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), OSHA standards, and best practices in industrial safety.

Job Overview

Amentum is looking for a Safety Officer to join our team in Fall Church, Virginia. The Safety Officer works full‑time under the direction of the Program Manager and supports the program’s security personnel. The primary location is the greater Washington Metro Area, with potential TDY to CONUS and OCONUS projects. A U.S. Citizen with an active Top‑Secret Security Clearance is required.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety site inspections and maintain written logs.
• Conduct mishap and near‑miss investigations, complete required reports, and maintain OSHA Forms 300, 300A, and 301.
• Maintain safety reference materials for all job sites.
• Develop, implement, and maintain safety and health programs, systems, and procedures.
• Recommend continuous improvement processes and designs, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazards.
• Assist in facilitating employee safety training, emergency preparedness, and manage quality of training programs.
• Attend pre‑construction conferences, pre‑work meetings, and in‑process meetings to review Job Hazard Assessments and Safety Data Sheets.
• Ensure program personnel are trained and consistently wear proper PPE.
• Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Safety and Health related discipline preferred; Bachelor’s degree accepted with at least three years of related experience.
• Completion of an authorized OSHA 30‑Hour Construction safety training course or equivalent within the last five years; at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five years.
• Five years of safety work on similar projects, with preference for experience on U.S. Government and Military projects.
• Knowledge of U.S. Government Federal Acquisition Regulations, OSHA standards, industrial safety programs, and best practices.
• Strong organizational and written communication skills; competent in Microsoft Office.
• Reliable transportation to travel within the Washington Metro Area; no remote work.
• U.S. Citizen able to obtain and maintain Top‑Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Certifications

• OSHA 30 Construction Safety Certification within last 5 years (must be completed within 90 days of hire).
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) status in active status.
• Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification in active status (must be completed within 180 days of hire).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work may involve kneeling, bending, stooping; correctable vision required.
• Potential TDY to CONUS and OCONUS projects with shared cafeteria, bath, and sleeping quarters.
• Work may be remote, confined, isolated; travel in local area may be very restricted.
• May require travel between remote locations in austere or inhospitable high‑stress environments.
• Minimal direct supervision.
• Families are not allowed to accompany employee during TDY.

Compensation

$80,000–$90,000 (base salary). Actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, education, experience, and other factors.
