Job summary

HazTek Safety Management seeks an experienced Safety Manager to lead safety operations for a data center project in the Houston area. You will drive OSHA compliance, implement best practices, and foster a culture where every worker goes home safe.

You will oversee safety across active sites, evaluate high-risk activities, review plans, and coordinate with contractors, site leadership, and owners to ensure strong safety outcomes and clear accountability.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of direct construction leadership experience, 3+ years on data center or mission-critical projects.
  • BCSP CHST certification is required; OSHA 510/500 is a plus.
  • Degree in safety-related field preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Owner's Representative experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction and data center safety standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety program documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety performance across active-facility projects.
  • Identify and assess high-risk activities before work begins.
  • Review MOPs and high-risk work plans for safety controls and planning.
  • Plan and oversee energized, hot, lifting, confined-space, and trenching activities.
  • Evaluate safety plans, incident reports, and corrective actions for alignment with requirements.
  • Track corrective actions through closure and verify field implementation.
  • Analyze safety observations, indicators and trends to identify improvements.
  • Participate in preconstruction and safety-planning meetings to communicate expectations.
  • Collaborate with contractor safety reps, project leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide owner-side safety guidance while maintaining accountability boundaries.
  • Conduct daily safety observations and audits to identify hazards and deficiencies.
  • Monitor compliance with zero-tolerance policies and escalate violations.
  • Maintain records of site visits, incidents, inspections, and documentation.

Job description

HazTek is seeking an experienced Safety Manager near Houston, TX to lead safety operations for a data center project. This role is critical in ensuring OSHA compliance, implementing best safety practices, and fostering a culture where every worker goes home safe.

  • Oversee construction safety performance across active-facility projects
  • Identify and assess high-risk activities before work begins, supporting comprehensive hazard identification and risk planning with appropriate coordination
  • Review MOPs and other high-risk work plans for appropriate safety controls, sequencing, emergency planning, and potential operational impacts.
  • Plan and oversee all controlled and permit-required activities, including but not limited to energized work, hot work, lifting and rigging operations, confined space work, excavation and trenching
  • Evaluate contractor safety plans, incident reports, near-miss reports, and corrective actions to ensure completeness, accuracy, and full alignment with project safety requirements
  • Track corrective and preventive actions through closure and verify field implementation where appropriate.
  • Analyze recurring safety observations, leading and lagging indicators, incident trends, and contractor performance to identify areas requiring additional attention.
  • Participate in preconstruction, kickoff, and safety-planning meetings to communicate owner safety expectations and upcoming risk considerations.
  • Collaborate regularly across teams including but not limited to contractor safety representatives, project leadership, and other stakeholders regarding safety performance and upcoming work.
  • Provide owner-side safety guidance and oversight while maintaining clear accountability boundaries between the contractor
  • Conduct daily safety observations and audits to identify safety hazards, equipment deficiencies, and areas requiring corrective action
  • Monitor compliance with project's zero-tolerance policies, escalating repeated or serious violations
  • Maintain records of site visits, observations, incidents, inspections, and all other necessary documentation
Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of direct construction experience in a leadership role, with 3+ years on data center or mission-critical facility projects
  • Active BCSP certification required (CHST certification highly preferred)
  • Degree in a safety related field preferred
  • OSHA 510 and or OSHA 500 is a plus
  • Owner's Representative (Owner's Rep) experience highly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of construction and data center safety standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills
