Job summary

Ingevity seeks a safety-focused professional to join its SHE team at our site. You will lead safety and health initiatives, manage compliance programs, and partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to strengthen safety culture.

You will analyze data, support ISO considerations, and drive continuous improvement of safety systems, policies, and training to protect employees and the environment. The role requires strong communication, stakeholder management, and hands-on risk reduction,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Science, Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience leading safety initiatives and contributing to safety management systems.
• Minimum 3 years in occupational safety/industrial hygiene in an industrial environment (chemical manufacturing preferred).
• CSP certification preferred but not required; willingness to pursue certification.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations including Process Safety Management (PSM).
• Strong organizational, observational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to priorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site's safety and health programs and contractor safety initiatives.
• Implement PSM elements and oversee MOC program.
• Administer ERA ergonomics program and lead safety team objectives.
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality to strengthen safety culture.

• Support continuous improvement of Safety Management System and audits.
• Coordinate air quality and noise monitoring for regulatory compliance.
• Analyze occupational illness/accident data to inform decisions.

In this role, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the safety, health, environmental, and regulatory performance of our site. You will play a key role in supporting compliance initiatives, driving continuous improvement in safety and environmental management systems, and helping advance Ingevity's sustainability goals through effective data management and operational partnership.

What You’ll Do:

As a key member of the SHE team, you will:

• Help ensure compliance with all health and safety regulatory requirements, as well as company health, safety, and security policies.
• Effectively implement safety and health initiatives while communicating a proactive safety message across all levels of the organization.
• Lead the site's Security Program and support all aspects of site Safety and Health programs, including the Contractor Safety Program.
• Implement all elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) in alignment with company initiatives.
• Administer the site's Management of Change (MOC) program.
• Serve as the site subject matter expert and facilitator for the ergonomics program.
• Lead the safety team to ensure departmental objectives and responsibilities are completed effectively and on time.
• Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams to foster collaboration and strengthen safety culture across the site.
• Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses to determine causes, identify preventive measures, and lead root cause resolution efforts.
• Evaluate existing safety programs and recommend improvements that enhance employee safety and operational effectiveness.
• Support the continuous improvement of the Ingevity Safety Management System through participation in corporate initiatives, special teams, and safety audits.
• Conduct or coordinate air quality and noise monitoring to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industrial hygiene best practices.
• Collaborate with medical professionals to assess workplace health risks and develop strategies to address employee health concerns.
• Compile, analyze, and interpret occupational illness and accident data to support informed decision-making.
• Interpret safety regulations for internal stakeholders and maintain awareness of the impact of ISO/IATF 16949 requirements on site operations and support functions.
• Ensure effective processes are in place for reporting, resolving, and responding to unsafe conditions.
• Conduct routine safety observations and lead or participate in safety meetings and presentations.
• Manage the annual departmental budget and ensure spending aligns with established financial goals.
• Provide backup support for environmental compliance activities as needed.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's degree in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Demonstrated ability to lead safety initiatives and contribute to the development of operational and safety management systems.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational safety and health and/or industrial hygiene within an industrial environment; chemical manufacturing experience preferred.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification preferred, though not required. Candidates should be willing to pursue certification.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations applicable to chemical manufacturing environments, including Process Safety Management (PSM).
• Strong organizational, observational, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing business priorities.
• Comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, consensus-building, and relationship management skills.

Physical Requirements:

To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, candidates should be able to:

• Observe and hear warning signs and signals throughout all areas of the facility.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Walk stairs across multiple floors and climb ladders as needed.
• Sit for extended periods while using a computer, keyboard, and mouse.
