Job summary

Ingevity is seeking an experienced Electrical/Instrumentation Technician to install, calibrate and repair electrical and instrumentation systems across a busy manufacturing facility in Charleston, SC. You will read drawings, apply safety standards and perform preventive maintenance.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of industrial experience, the ability to work rotating shifts, and a strong focus on teamwork and safe operation in a chemical environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5 years of Industrial Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance experience or formal training preferred.
• Ability to work shift work and overtime as required.
• Effective communication with co-workers and management.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Physical activities including climbing, lifting, and standing up to 16 hours.
• Work in an industrial chemical environment and outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain and repair electrical/instrumentation devices and systems throughout the facility.
• Read and interpret electrical/instrumentation manuals, prints, and drawings.
• Follow NFPA 70E arc flash safety standards.
• Diagnose and repair components including PLC/DCS, sensors, valves and motors.
• Access bill of materials and checkout parts from Storeroom.
• Maintain safety procedures and PPE compliance.
• Train other I/E Technicians and perform maintenance across machines.
• Complete necessary paperwork and support shift operations.

How You Will Impact Ingevity

• Install, calibrate, maintain and repair all types of electrical and instrumentation devices, equipment and systems throughout the facility. (Including low voltage to 13.8KV systems)
• Refer to, read, and understand electrical and instrumentation manuals, prints, and drawings.
• Understand and demonstrate arc flash safety standards as outlined in NFPA 70E.
• Apply principles of mathematics, physics, AC/DC theory, electronics, pneumatics, and reliability methods in installing and maintaining electrical and instrumentation components and systems
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair all types of electrical and instrumentation devices, equipment, and systems (including but not limited to: conduit, cabling, wiring, lighting, power, motors, power distribution equipment, high voltage systems, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems, PLC/DCS systems, flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters, valves, and positioners)
• Cooperate with other crafts to increase flexibility and efficiency by independently performing such tasks as replacement of small motors, small piping component electronics and instrumentation devices and similar tasks, as agreed with affected parties
• Independently access bill of materials, locate and checkout parts from Storeroom.
• Other duties as assigned
• Operate lifts and other equipment as needed
• Check email at least once a shift
• Train other I/E Technicians and perform maintenance on various machines throughout the facility
• Complete all necessary paperwork
• Follows safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE

What You Need To Succeed

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 5 years of Industrial Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance experience or formal training from a technical school or institution in the Instrumentation and Electrical field preferred
• Must be able to work shift work and overtime as required
• Able to effectively communicate with co-workers and management
• Able to work autonomously
• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
• Ability to stand and work for up to 16 hours a day
• Able to lift heavy items on a regular basis
• Able to climb stairs and ladders
• Preform work in an outdoor facility
• Must be able to work in an industrial chemical manufacturing environment
• Will need to be observant in working around large items and moving vehicles
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, team environment
