Job summary

The Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a Safety Manager to lead the Safety & Wellness Program. You will manage all aspects of health, safety, and loss prevention and serve as the agency’s primary expert on safety matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field with 2 years of related experience.
  • OR 5+ years in Occupational Health and Safety consulting or Workers’ Compensation loss prevention.
  • Strong communication and written report skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across diverse groups.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and strengthen agency-wide safety and wellness programs through analysis and planning.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, ergonomic evaluations, and incident investigations.
  • Provide guidance on safety regulations, policies, and Workers’ Compensation matters.
  • Coordinate DAS Safety & Wellness Committees and safety training.
  • Represent DAS in statewide wellness efforts and manage the DAS Wellness Plan.
  • Partner with DAS Risk, SAIF, and leaders on injury reviews and claims monitoring.
  • Support continuous safety improvements through policy development and best practices.

Safety Manager

What You Will Do

As the DAS Safety Manager, you will manage all aspects of our Safety and Wellness Program and serve as our agency’s primary expert on health, safety, and loss prevention.

Typical duties:

  • Lead and strengthen agency-wide safety and wellness programs through consultation, data analysis, and strategic planning
  • Conduct inspections, audits, ergonomic evaluations, and incident investigations
  • Provide expert guidance on safety regulations, policies, and Workers’ Compensation matters
  • Coordinate DAS Safety & Wellness Committees and ensure accessible, effective safety training
  • Represent DAS in statewide wellness efforts and manage the DAS Wellness Plan
  • Partner with DAS Risk, SAIF, and leaders on injury reviews, claims monitoring, and employee recovery support
  • Support continuous safety improvements through policy development and best practices

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field; and two years of experience in Workers’ Compensation insurance loss prevention or as an occupational health and safety representative in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting

OR

Five years of experience in Occupational Health and Safety consultation work in an industrial, manufacturing, government, utilities, institutional, or agricultural setting or in Workers’ Compensation insurance loss prevention.

  • Experience representing an organization in a professional manner with employees, customers, the public, or other jurisdictions
  • Proficiency using common software applications and the ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and take appropriate action

Salary: $5,907 - $8,717

Additional Details

  • This recruitment is for 1 permanent, full-time, Safety Specialist 2 (management, non-supervisory) position, and may be used to fill future vacancies.
  • Employee is required to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state where the employee resides.
  • Salary note: The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
