Job summary

Donnelly-Mechanical-Corp. is seeking a Safety Manager in Queens Village, NY to develop and maintain company-wide safety programs for HVAC construction, installation, service, warehousing, and fleet operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a safety-related field, with applicable certifications preferred.
  • 5+ years of safety management experience in HVAC/construction or related trades.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead safety training initiatives and coordinate ongoing training including OSHA 10/30, fall protection, LOTO, electrical safety, ladder safety, confined space awareness, PPE, defensive driving, heat illness prevention.
  • Conduct jobsite inspections and facility safety audits.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage; determine root causes and corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA logs and prepare incident reports and safety documentation.
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics and ensure regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Oversee fleet and equipment safety programs and driver qualifications.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and promote a proactive safety culture.

Safety Manager

Department: Operations / Safety

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining company-wide safety programs for HVAC construction, installation, service, maintenance, warehousing, and fleet operations. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture that protects employees, customers, and company assets.

The Safety Manager will lead safety training initiatives, conduct audits and inspections, investigate incidents, and work closely with management and field personnel to continuously improve workplace safety performance.

Safety Program Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Update safety programs to reflect changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  • Maintain written safety manuals, policies, and records.

Field Safety Oversight

  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections and facility safety audits.
  • Monitor field operations for compliance with company safety standards.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Support project managers and supervisors in maintaining safe work practices.

Training & Employee Development

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation.
  • Coordinate ongoing training including:
    • OSHA 10 and OSHA 30
    • Fall Protection
    • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
    • Electrical Safety
    • Ladder Safety
    • Confined Space Awareness
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Defensive Driving
    • Heat Illness Prevention
  • Maintain training records and certifications.
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, near misses, vehicle incidents, and property damage claims.
  • Determine root causes and develop corrective action plans.
  • Prepare incident reports and safety documentation.
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain OSHA logs and required documentation.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Manage workers' compensation and return-to-work safety initiatives.
  • Ensure proper reporting and record retention.

Fleet & Equipment Safety

  • Oversee vehicle safety programs.
  • Monitor driver qualifications and motor vehicle records.
  • Ensure equipment inspections are completed and documented.

Safety Culture & Employee Engagement

  • Lead safety committee meetings.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Promote employee involvement in safety programs.
  • Recognize and reinforce safe work behaviors.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 5+ years of safety management experience.
  • Experience in HVAC, mechanical contracting, construction, facilities services, or related trades preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and safety audits.

Preferred Certifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • OSHA Authorized Trainer (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Ability to influence and coach employees at all levels.
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to prepare reports, presentations, and compliance documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to visit jobsites, rooftops, mechanical rooms, and construction areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders, and traverse active construction sites.
  • Ability to travel to field locations as required.
