Job summary

The Bay Family of Companies is seeking a Safety Manager to lead and develop safety programs across divisions in Wisconsin and beyond. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, while maintaining accurate safety records and incident reports.

You will implement policies, train staff, and support the safety committee, managing a Safety Team and driving proactive safety practices to reduce risk. Travel 15–20% and a strong driving record are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety or a similar field with 5+ years in industrial safety.
• Familiarity with safety and industrial hygiene concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Strong persuasive skills for interacting with top management, managers, supervisors, and employees.
• Ability to organize safety materials into lesson plans and present to managers and safety committees.
• Experience managing safety programs across multiple locations.
• Must be able to travel 15–20%.
• Clean driving record acceptable for insurance requirements.

Job description

The Safety Manager leads the organization’s safety programs and acts as a consultant to support the safety efforts at the various divisions of the company. This role develops, implements, and manages safety programs, policies, and procedures. The manager must stay current on federal, state, and local safety laws to ensure compliance, and must maintain accurate safety‑related and incident records.

Responsibilities

• Stay current and ensure that federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, rules, and DOT requirements are observed.
• Ensure that OSHA record‑keeping and reporting requirements are met.
• Monitor activities where accidents could occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment.
• Assist the safety committee(s) by providing technical and administrative support.
• Manage the Safety Team by assigning work and monitoring team development.
• Perform safety audits at locations and lead training sessions.
• Manage all workers compensation claims, including OSHA recordable and reportable injuries, and serve as the key contact.
• Act as the safety expert and the go‑to person for the business, providing training and coaching on safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Conduct accident investigations, complete root‑cause analyses, and implement proactive safety practices to reduce risks.
• Develop and track key safety performance metrics and report findings to leadership.
• Assist management in creating, recommending, and implementing employee safety and workers compensation policies, procedures, and safety rules, ensuring alignment with current laws and regulations across company locations.

• Familiarity with a variety of safety and industrial hygiene concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Strong persuasive skills for interacting with top management, managers, supervisors, and employees.
• Ability to organize safety and occupational health material into lesson plans and present effectively to managers and safety committees.
• Prior experience managing safety programs across multiple locations.
• Ability to travel 15–20% of the time.
• Maintained a clean driving record acceptable for insurance requirements.
