Job summary

FlatironDragados is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead occupational health programs on a mega project or across divisions. You will oversee safety procedures, conduct orientations, analyze trends, and ensure regulatory compliance while collaborating with project teams.

The role demands 15+ years in construction or safety and 10+ years in leadership of safety teams, with a Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety or a related field is preferred.
  • 15+ years’ experience in construction or safety.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing construction or safety teams.
  • Developed leadership skills with clear expectations to reports and stakeholders.
  • Strong ability to mentor safety professionals and build a balanced internal team.
  • Ability to provide training and learning opportunities based on safety knowledge and principles.
  • Identify onsite safety risks and develop compliant mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety program and procedures for a large project or multiple projects.
  • Conduct site trend analysis and track accidents, injuries, fire, and property damage.
  • Develop and conduct safety orientations, trainings, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure permits and certifications are active and tracked to avoid delays.
  • Provide technical support for training, equipment, and inspection needs.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and procurement to ensure safety items are available.
  • Provide project status and trend analysis to management and teams.
  • Oversee injury reporting and investigation, implement corrective actions.
  • Review DHA and participate in JHA discussions for the project plan.
  • Create or approve worksite safety and evacuation plans; support emergency response.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Oversees safety program and procedures for a single large project or multiple projects within the same District.
  • Performs project site trend analysis and ensures accurate tracking of accidents, injuries, fire, property damage and other safety related incidents are recorded.
  • Develops and conducts all safety orientations, trainings and oversees project site toolbox talks for all project staff within designated timeframe.
  • Ensures all required project permits and certifications are active, documented and tracked for all required construction activities to avoid delays in construction schedule.
  • Provides technical expertise to training, equipment needs and inspection requirements to support construction schedule and promote project cost savings.
  • Oversees equipment maintenance and procurement for project needs to ensure onsite crews have all necessary safety items before construction activity begins.
  • Provides project status and trend analysis to manager and project team, as needed.
  • Oversees injury reporting and resolution for entire project site. Reviews investigation documentation and corrective action plans to ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are implemented on the job site.
  • Reviews and approves Daily Hazard Analysis (DHA) from direct reports and personal daily documentation to ensure accurate and timely tracking of safety procedures. Participates in Jobsite Hazard Analysis (JHA) discussions and documentation for the entire project plan.
  • Creates, reviews or approves the worksite safety and evacuation plan for the project site. Supports emergency response and vehicle access planning with Project Manager.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Safety or a related field preferred.
  • 15+ years’ experience in construction or safety required.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing construction or safety teams required.
  • Developed leadership skills with consistent and clear expectations messaged to direct reports and project stakeholders.
  • Strong, proven skills identifying and mentoring direct report safety professionals. Assigning tasks and training to build a strong and well balanced internal team.
  • Developed ability to provide training and learning opportunities for construction teams based on expert safety knowledge and standard safety principles.
  • Expert and proven skill to identify onsite project safety risks and develop innovative and compliant mitigation strategies within safety program and agency requirement standards.
  • Expert knowledge of construction site equipment, methods and processes.
  • Expert knowledge of regulatory compliance, industry trends and upcoming agency regulations that might impact Company and project production.
  • Strong and proven verbal, written and presentation skills with all levels of the organization.
