Sheakley is hiring an experienced Safety Manager to support a mechanical contractor on a major construction project at the Austin Convention Center. The project is currently focused on underground work, making this a strong opportunity for a safety professional with hands-on mechanical construction experience.
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Austin, TX
Contract Type: 1099
Project Duration: Approximately 4 months
Pay Rate: $44 to $48 per hour
Per Diem: $125
Schedule: 40+ hours per week, with the potential to increase to approximately 60 hours during project ramp-up
Provide daily safety leadership for mechanical construction and underground work
Conduct site inspections and identify unsafe conditions, behaviors, and work practices
Support job hazard analyses, pre-task planning, and daily safety meetings
Monitor excavation, trenching, underground utility, equipment, and mechanical installation activities
Verify compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety procedures
Coach employees and subcontractors on hazard recognition and safe work practices
Enforce PPE, housekeeping, access-control, and site-safety requirements
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns
Maintain accurate inspection reports, training records, and corrective-action documentation
Partner with project leadership to address hazards before they affect employees or operations
Previous mechanical construction safety experience
Current OSHA 30
Current First Aid/CPR certification
Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements
Experience supporting underground construction activities
Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership
Comfortable working in a fast-paced construction environment with increasing hours during ramp-up
