Job description

Who we are:

Nirvana is on a mission to harness the power of data to revolutionize commercial insurance and enable a safer world. We are bringing much-needed innovation into the legacy, trillion-dollar commercial insurance industry. We have developed cutting-edge predictive models that use real-time IoT data from billions of connected devices, allowing us to better understand and price risk. Our AI-driven platform fundamentally changes the way an insurance company operates with personalized risk scoring, faster underwriting, modernized claims, and proactive, data-driven insights to help customers prevent accidents.

We’ve already proven the scale—reaching well over $100 million in premiums and more than doubling year over year. Our data moat is growing exponentially with more than 20 billion miles of telematics data, leading to more predictive models and new insights into how we can better understand and reduce risk. Altogether, our loss ratio, efficiency, and customer experience are redefining what can be done in the industry.

With $170+ million raised, including an industry-leading Series C round in January 2025, we’re only accelerating our growth, with strong support from top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Nirvana’s leadership team has previously helped scale multi-billion-dollar companies from scratch, including Samsara, Rubrik, and Flexport, and includes industry veterans from Hiscox, The Hartford, and RLI.

About the role:

As the Safety Program Lead, you will own and scale our end-to-end safety and risk operations function. You’ll lead a team of safety experts, define and optimize our program playbook, and partner across the business to ensure every customer sees consistent, measurable value.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead & Develop: Recruit, mentor, and coach a high-performing Safety & Risk Services team; set goals, manage performance and align team capacity to business needs.

  • Program Execution and Operational Excellence: Define and refine SOPs, SLAs, workflows, and KPIs to scale safety and risk services.

  • Customer Engagement & Risk Mitigation: Lead your team to guide fleets from pre-bind risk assessments through onboarding, quarterly reviews, and on-site loss control; ensure white-glove support, safety platform insight adoption, and proactive gap remediation.

  • Retention & Impact-Driven Program Development: Work cross-functionally with Underwriting, Product, Engineering, and other teams to develop and implement tools, workflows, and service enhancements that drive customer retention, improve safety outcomes, and support a healthy loss ratio. Champion customer needs and feedback to shape platform improvements, training materials, and internal processes.

  • GTM Partnership & Thought Leadership: Collaborate with GTM teams to position program ROI, share success stories, deliver thought leadership, and support renewals and pipeline growth.

About you:

  • 7+ years in fleet safety or risk management roles.

  • 2+ years in a leadership capacity.

  • Thorough understanding of the CSA scoring system, FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, and general insurance requirements for the trucking industry.

  • Familiarity with driver qualification and training requirements.

  • Familiarity with different types of trucking operations across the industry

  • Hands-on experience with telematics/ELDs, dash cams, and AI-driven safety platforms.

  • Enthusiasm for adopting new technologies and AI capabilities to drive safety outcomes.

  • Proven track record building scalable processes, SOPs, SLAs, and leading teams to deliver measurable results.

  • Strong people manager—skilled at coaching, performance management, and fostering an inclusive, high-trust culture.

  • Clear, empathetic communicator adept at translating data into actionable guidance and partnering across functions.

  • You leverage metrics to guide decisions, demonstrate impact, and continuously improve programs.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for on-site visits and team events.

  • Preferred but not required:

    • NATMI Certified Director of Safety (CDS) designation or equivalent.

    • Direct experience working with fleets and drivers is highly valued.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary & equity

  • Medical, dental & vision insurance

  • 401k with company match

  • Unlimited PTO
