Steel Dynamics, Inc. invites a Safety Intern to join the New Millennium facility in Salem, VA for Summer 2027. The role focuses on supporting the safety team, assisting with audits, trainings, and program documentation in line with OSHA standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance. Located at the Salem site, this internship offers hands-on experience in an industrial setting with housing and internship events, plus

Qualifications

• Pursuing or enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field.
• GPA 2.7 or higher preferred.
• Willingness to conduct safety audits and inspections in an industrial setting.
• Foundational knowledge of OSHA standards and general industry safety regulations.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Support safety team with continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety culture.
• Participate in training, orientation, safety sessions, and communications.
• Assist in development, implementation, and documentation of safety programs per OSHA standards.
• Conduct safety audits, facility walkthroughs, and Job Safety Analyses; identify hazards.
• Contribute to incident investigations and reporting; assist with corrective actions.
• Maintain compliance records and safety documentation; support audits.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on safety projects and SOPs.
• Assist in preparing and reviewing Job Safety Analyses (JSA).
• Support Take Control of Safety Program implementation.
