Job summary

Hatzel & Buehler Inc. is seeking a Safety Intern to support our field safety program on active construction and maintenance projects in Wilmington, DE.

You will assist with daily safety inspections, hazard identification, and the implementation of procedures in line with company policy and regulatory requirements. You will help collect safety data, participate in incident reporting, and assist investigations under supervision.

Qualifications

• Knowledge or coursework in Health & Safety, Occupational Health, and Environment Health and Safety (EHS).
• Ability to support Safety Training initiatives, including preparing materials, assisting with presentations, and reinforcing safety policies with field teams.
• Interest and foundational skills in Accident Investigation, including gathering facts, documenting findings, and assisting with corrective action follow-up.
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or certificate in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Strong observation, documentation, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Willingness to work on active job sites, follow all safety requirements, and travel locally to project locations as needed.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office or similar tools) for reporting, tracking, and communication.

Responsibilities

Role Description

The role will support the safety team on active construction and maintenance projects.
