Job summary

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience in safety/occupational health at GS-9 level or equivalent.
  • Developing safety/occupational health policy and advising management on technical matters.
  • Applying safety laws, regs, and theories to reduce hazards.
  • Developing standards and procedures to eliminate hazards.
  • Analyzing jobs and processes to determine hazard severity and probability.
  • Designing/modifying workplaces to control hazards.
  • Inspecting workplaces for compliance with policies and standards.
  • Training workers, supervisors, and managers in safety and health topics.
  • Experience in roles such as industrial hygienist, fire prevention engineer, or health physicist.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and execute the facility safety and fire prevention program.
  • Prepare safety, occupational health, and fire prevention policies and reports.
  • Conduct safety and fire drills; train staff on safety practices.
  • Investigate accidents, compile statistics, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Lead hazard evaluations and assist Emergency Preparedness activities.
  • Perform periodic surveys and on-site inspections of facilities and labs.
