Job summary

Shimmick is seeking a Safety Manager to support our presence in the greater Seattle area. The role focuses on implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the company’s Safety & Health Program across heavy civil construction projects.

This position requires working in high-risk environments and promoting a strong safety culture through field leadership, training, and engagement with project teams and subcontractors. A Bachelor’s degree with relevant certifications is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree plus 6 years of relevant experience or equivalent
• Must be able to maintain 3 points of contact when climbing a ladder
• Must have a valid driver's license
• 10+ years of experience in Heavy Civil construction (preferred)
• Knowledge of Federal, Washington State, Port of Seattle and Sound Transit safety regs (preferred)
• Competent Person Certifications (Confined/Enclosed Space, Fall Protection, Trenching & Excavation) (preferred)
• Experience with substations, utility infrastructure, high voltage, switching yards and electrical rooms (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Under limited supervision, perform moderately complex ES&H work to ensure compliance with ES&H standards and regulatory requirements
• Maintains current knowledge of government agency requirements
• Apply fundamental ES&H concepts and procedures
• Independently determine and develop approaches to solutions
• Develop, implement and maintain safety and health programs, systems, and procedures
• Monitor and prevent hazards and diseases in the work area
• Investigate accidents, injuries and safety-related complaints
• Recommend process and design improvements to minimize hazards
• Develop and conduct employee training and emergency preparedness
• Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice
• May lead a team of ES&H specialists or support personnel
• May administer ES&H programs on small or medium projects
