Job summary

UC Davis is seeking a Safety Manager and Facilities Coordinator to lead environmental, health and safety programs for CAHFS across four statewide locations, supervising safety policies and audits, and coordinating facilities operations for the Davis laboratory.

The role demands extensive biosafety expertise (BSL-3), strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to act as on-site incident commander and liaison with agencies.

Qualifications

• Valid California driver's license and driving record per local policies/procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, public health or a related field.
• Professional experience in managing programs for and training employees on health and safety, injury and illness prevention, laboratory safety, hazardous materials and waste management, and emergency action plans.
• Experience in risk management; conducting, coordinating, and reporting accident investigations and internal audits; implementing preventative actions.
• Knowledge of and experience with regulatory compliance.
• Experience in facilities operations and maintenance management.
• Advanced knowledge of federal, state, local and UC health, safety and environmental regulations for occupational safety and infrastructure in a diagnostic lab.
• Advanced knowledge of biosafety and containment principles for BSL2/BSL3 and waste regulations.
• Strong analytical, written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• 50% - Safety Manager across CAHFS systemwide.
• 30% - RO/Registration Manager for Select Agent Program and High-Containment (BSL-3) Lab management.
• 20% - Facilities oversight and Davis lab management and backup for Davis Facilities Manager.
• Special requirements: employment contingent upon criminal background check and may include drug screening, medical evaluation clearance and functional capacity assessment.
