Job summary

ES Foundry Corp, a U.S.-based solar manufacturing company in Greenwood, SC, seeks a Safety Engineer to develop and maintain safety programs, ensure OSHA compliance, and lead incident investigations. You will partner with production, engineering, and HR to reduce injuries and improve safety performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of safety engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs compliant with OSHA/EPA and regulations.
  • Conduct safety audits, JHAs, and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.

  • Manage workers' compensation with HR and insurers.
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills.
  • Chair or support the plant safety committee and promote engagement.

About the role:

The Safety Engineer plays a critical role in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs that protect employees and ensure regulatory compliance within our solar cell manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for identifying workplace hazards, conducting risk assessments, and leading initiatives to reduce injury rates and promote a culture of safety. The role requires close collaboration with production, engineering, and HR teams to ensure OSHA compliance, manage incident investigations, and support continuous safety improvement. The successful candidate will contribute to a safer work environment, directly reducing incidents and supporting operational continuity. Ultimately, this role ensures ES Foundry maintains a proactive, compliant, and safety-first culture across all manufacturing operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain plant safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine safety audits, workplace inspections, and job hazard analyses (JHAs) to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Lead incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage and maintain OSHA recordkeeping (300, 300A, 301 logs) and ensure timely regulatory reporting.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new hire orientation, LOTO, confined space, hazard communication, and PPE.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring, including noise, air quality, and chemical exposure assessments.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams during equipment installation and process changes to ensure safety-by-design principles are applied.
  • Manage workers' compensation claims in coordination with HR and insurance providers.
  • Lead emergency response planning, including fire drills, evacuation procedures, and emergency action plans.
  • Chair or support the plant safety committee and promote employee engagement in safety initiatives.
  • Track and report key safety metrics (TRIR, DART, near-misses) to plant leadership.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of safety engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910).
Desired Skills:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) credential preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour or OSHA 500/501 Trainer certification a plus.
  • Experience in semiconductor, solar, or electronics manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 safety management systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental compliance (EPA, hazardous waste management).
  • Proficiency in incident management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with machine guarding, ergonomics assessments, and chemical safety programs.

  • Must be able to lift and position objects weighing up to 50 lbs., up to 10% of the work time.
  • Requires frequent walking throughout the production floor to conduct inspections and audits.
  • May require availability for emergency response outside of normal business hours.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE based on area-specific hazards.
