Job summary

Ventura Regional Sanitation District is seeking a Safety Officer to plan, organize, and manage a comprehensive safety and emergency management program across the District. The incumbent will oversee compliance with safety regulations, advise management on Cal/OSHA requirements, and lead the District’s safety committee and training initiatives.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the field of industrial safety, preferably in a water/wastewater and/or solid waste environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in safety, business administration, or a closely related field.
• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license, and a driving record acceptablefor insurability.
• Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CIH, OHST, CEM, CHMM are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manages the District’s safety and emergency management programs, including safety audits and elimination of identified hazards in compliance with laws and regulations; oversees training.
• Develops emergency response and management programs, including drills and coordination with local responders and officials.
• Plans, organizes, and provides direction to staff to strengthen the District’s safety culture.
• Develops and implements comprehensive employee health and safety programs, including industrial and environmental safety; evaluates training effectiveness and updates programs accordingly.
