Job summary

City and County of San Francisco’s SFWD seeks a Safety Officer to lead comprehensive health and safety programs for the water division. The role emphasizes evaluating safety programs, investigating incidents, and advising management on injury prevention in a complex utility environment.

The incumbent will plan trainings, monitor regulatory compliance (Cal/OSHA), and coordinate with vendors on IIPP projects while maintaining safety data and reporting to the division manager.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Management or equivalent.
• Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
• Possession of a current valid California Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Directs and participates in investigations and surveys of plants, facilities and field worksites; evaluates hazardous conditions and recommends corrective actions.
• Establishes division-wide safety training programs for operating and maintenance personnel; develops training materials and conducts safety meetings.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of occupational safety programs and recommends modifications to comply with legal requirements and reduce liability.
