Job summary

Ashley Furniture Industries is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support regulatory compliance and safety programs across the organization. You will promote a secure workplace, address safety issues with staff, conduct investigations, and manage training records and audits.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the Worker’s Compensation team, performing safety audits, and facilitating employee orientation to ensure adherence to health and safety laws. Moderate domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
• Six months’ experience in manufacturing health & safety, required.
• First Aid, CPR and AED certification or the ability to obtain within six months, and Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Comply with regulatory standards: update the Company safety policies and procedures based on regulatory updates, advise management regarding regulatory issues, support the abatement of discovered regulatory violations, conduct monthly supervisor safety training, review video and/or photos for possible captured violations, and conduct new employee orientation sessions.
• Manage day‑to‑day safety related issues: investigate accidents, review employee injuries, assign individuals to follow up, train staff on new policies and procedures, and educate internal staff about all health, safety, and security laws and regulations.
• Ensure positive employee and internal customer relations by meeting with employees regarding safety issues, resolving employee complaints, abatements and issue follow‑up, and addressing safety concerns.
• Assist injured employees by evaluating injuries, bandaging injuries, and transporting injured employees to a medical facility when necessary.
• Collaborate with the Worker’s Compensation department by reviewing and investigating injuries and their causes, and meeting regularly to review injuries.

Summary

The Safety Coordinator will support the efforts of the Safety Department to ensure compliance with regulatory and company safety standards. This position will promote a secure environment for all Ashley employees and property, meet with employees to address safety‑related issues, conduct safety investigations, maintain safety and training programs and records, develop and facilitate training, conduct safety audits, and collaborate with the Worker’s Compensation Department to review and investigate work‑related injury claims.

Job Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.

Experience: Six months’ experience in manufacturing health & safety, required.

Licenses or Certifications: First Aid, CPR and AED certification or the ability to obtain within six months, and Driver’s License.

• Knowledge, skills and abilities: OSHA laws and regulations; Worker’s Compensation laws (state applicable); accident investigation; safety audit programs for manufacturing; working knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools; record management; read and interpret government regulations, rules, and laws; effective facilitation; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail; effective time management and organizational skills; analytical skills; problem solving and decision making especially in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment; proficient computer skills, specifically Excel, Outlook, and internet; maintain confidentiality; handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraints; respond professionally in situations with employee and vendor issues or inquiries.
