Job description

Overview

Safety Coordinator – Markade Plumbing role at Kelso Industries. The right candidate for this position has extensive experience in Safety and will support our projects. This person will be responsible for continuously integrating impactful safety initiatives into the functional operation of the different projects by maintaining processes and procedures that prevent injuries and violations of the law or company policies.

Responsibilities
  • Preview projects and project sites before work begins to determine safety-related risks.
  • Visit active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance.
  • Work with field workers to develop and implement solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.
  • Facilitates new employee safety orientation training.
  • Maintain safety-related paperwork including OSHA 300 logs.
  • Manage Workers Compensation program.
  • Assist in accident/incident investigations and prepare written reports for Safety Manager.
  • Maintain safety training certifications including OSHA, Forklift, Fall Protection, First Aid, MEWP, and Rigging and Signaling.
  • Train company employees on safe work practices.
  • Discipline employees who fail to comply with minimum safety standards.
Qualifications And Required Skills
  • Minimum 1-3 years of construction safety coordination experience required
  • Good Communication Skills – the ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken word
  • Active Listening – the ability to listen well and take in feedback from the employees’ perspective without passing judgment
  • Excellent soft skills and ability to work with executive-level owners and clients in a high stress environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations – specifically relative to the construction trade or activities being managed
  • Good Recordkeeping – the Construction Safety Coordinator must be able to maintain good records of all safety-related activities
  • Perform Work at Heights - Ability to safely access elevated work areas using ladders or scaffolding to perform site evaluations
  • Knowledge of the Plumbing trade – such knowledge enables the Safety Coordinator to design and implement solutions for the company
  • Willingness to travel (up to 75%) and/or relocate to project site locations
  • OSHA 30 (1925 Construction) – Preferred/Required?
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Safety applications)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Associate degree in a Safety related discipline preferred
  • OSHA 510 preferred
  • OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor preferred
  • Current First / CPR Certification – Preferred/Required?

The Safety Coordinator coordinates safety for plumbing projects: assists in conducting safety inspections and audits; assists in monitoring job safety progress at job sites; facilitates enforcement in the requirements of Markade’s Safety Manual, Health and Safety Plan, and Contract Safety specifications; also works with supervisors and employees to help create and maintain a safe environment on job sites and employer property to help keep employees safe; assists with safety and security certification documentation and generates reports regarding project safety. The position may require some travel throughout the state of Arizona.
