Job description

Overview

This position works Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays. Standard hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with flexibility to adjust the day shift if needed.

Responsibilities

The Safety Coordinator inspects facilities and work areas to recommend corrective actions to reduce safety and Environment of Care risks. They collaborate with multidisciplinary groups to implement changes and ensure regulatory compliance. The role covers locations on the Academic Health Center license, including Marion County and surrounding areas, with some travel required.

The coordinator ensures a safe, functional environment for occupants, manages Hazardous Materials and Waste, Emergency Management, and Safety functions for the Environment of Care (EOC). They investigate, reduce, and control environmental hazards, develop and implement an information collection and evaluation system (ICES), and coordinate regulatory compliance across all responsibilities. They also develop staff education programs and act as a resource for regulations and standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health Science, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety Management preferred.
• Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and/or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certifications strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission, FEMA, IDEM, EPA, OSHA, and ISDH rules and regulations, including federal, state, and local requirements.
• Knowledge of hazardous material management and emergency management/preparedness requirements.
• Ability to identify and evaluate workplace hazards.
• Ability to develop educational programs and training activities.
• Proficiency in computer use and familiarity with various software programs.
