The Safety Coordinator will provide active field safety support for highway infrastructure, roadway, and civil construction operations. This position requires a visible field presence, strong knowledge of roadway hazards, and the ability to work effectively with project leadership, subcontractors, and field crews.
Key responsibilities may include:
Conducting daily jobsite safety inspections and identifying potential hazards
Monitoring roadway work zones, traffic control operations, and civil construction activities
Supporting compliance with OSHA regulations, project safety plans, and client requirements
Ensuring crews follow applicable MOT, TMAS, and VDOT safety standards
Leading toolbox talks, safety orientations, and field-level training
Reviewing job hazard analyses, pre-task plans, and daily safety documentation
Investigating incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
Providing real-time coaching and corrective guidance to field personnel
Maintaining accurate inspection reports, training records, and safety documentation
Partnering with project management to strengthen the overall safety culture
Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
Previous safety experience within highway, roadway, transportation, or heavy civil construction
Working knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) requirements
Familiarity with TMAS and VDOT standards
Understanding of roadway safety, traffic control, and active work-zone hazards
Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, subcontractors, and project leadership
Strong documentation, inspection, and hazard-recognition skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment
