Job summary

Fraser Industries, including Fraser Shipyards, seeks a Safety Coordinator to join the safety team and ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines across projects.

You will support the Safety Manager, conduct inspections, train staff, investigate incidents, maintain procedures, and coordinate safety orientations, meetings, and audits with a focus on maritime operations.

Qualifications

  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in safety, industrial health, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with a Safety Program is required.
  • Maritime/shipyard industry experience is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Safety Manager to plan, implement, and review Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Conduct safety observation reports regularly.
  • Attend safety walks and inspections to identify risks.
  • Educate employees on safety standards and safe machinery operation.
  • Provide recommendations for improving workplace safety.
  • Investigate accidents onsite and identify causes.
  • Maintain documentation of safety procedures and incidents.
  • Conduct and participate in Safety Meetings and Audits.
  • Coordinate employee, contractor, and visitor Orientations.
  • Coordinate safety initiatives with customer and site safety personnel.

Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator works with the safety team to ensure the company is in compliance and adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Provides support to the Safety Manager to plan, implement, and review Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Conduct safety observation reports on a regular basis, depending on the length of the project.
  • Attend safety walks and inspections before or during each project to analyze safety risks.
  • Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machinery operation.
  • Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.
  • Investigate accidents that occur onsite and identify possible causes of the accident.
  • Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, accidents and related events.
  • Conduct and participate in Safety Meetings and Audits.
  • Conduct employee, contractor, and visitor Orientations.
  • Customer Interface: Creates and implements safety initiatives, meetings and program as required by the customer. Work with job site safety personnel to identify and resolve safety issues.
  • Medical Interface: Coordinate transportation of injured or ill employees to medical facilities. May work with medical providers and HR Department to ensure the procedure requirements of the Company's return to work program are followed.
  • Coordinate New and Annual Training with Safety Manager.
  • Performs Annual and New Employee Respirator Fit Tests.
  • Ensures Employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations.
  • Controls Inventory of Environmental Safety Supplies.
  • Controls Inventory of Powered, Air Purifying Respirator Supplies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in the maritime/shipyard industry is preferred.
  • GED or high school diploma required.
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in safety, industrial health, or related field preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Background Check Required. Physical Requirements
  • Grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling.
  • Repetitive motions, bending, climbing, overhead work, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces, such as accessing manholes, and awkward positions for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to conduct inside and outside work in all temperatures.
  • Use of manufacturing equipment.
  • Work in environment where harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, gases, etc. might be present and the use of a respirator may be required.
  • Ability to work in nclement weather conditions/areas that at times are not environmentally controlled.
  • Able to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs.
  • May be required to work prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Applicants are required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, Motor Vehicle Report, and background check prior to employment start.
